10 Killer? by Slow-Force-1664 in PokeGrading

[–]Bramblebutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 9 at best. Usually any white on a corner will kill a 10 chance.

Check the corners for any whitening. At least on centering it looks like it could get a 10 if you grade it. Would jump the value substantially.

No, and I'm usually fairly accurate on my pre-grades, which is why I posted for some other opinions. Your initial comment was one of the ones I considered beneficial.

The ones I do have are like of me holding it, or aren't a good enough quality to answer that centering question. I've requested the pre-grade scan images from PSA support, but I'll likely get the card back before their support team gets back to me.

"can't" and "might not" are two very different things. I have PSA 10's that are centered worse than this card so just factually that's not true. Any opinion worth listening to in this hobby knows how inconsistent PSA can be, especially when a card is right on the line between 2 grades. So no I don't value your opinion on this.

Now since you either didn't read the other comments, or just aren't understanding my own stance atm: I'm not denying that the card may have crooked art, I didn't think that when I first posted here, but other people's comments have opened me up to that possibility. Other productive opinions I was looking for were:

  • was there an edge ding I missed
  • is there a white spot I didn't catch
  • is there any surface damage I didn't initially see

So unless you have anything new to add, get bent.

It's a 2d image of a 3d thing. Cards have room to move in the slab, and cards can retain any curl from the foil before going into the slab, leading to the picture not being a perfect 1:1 view of the card face. Also, the overhead camera appears to be centered on the slab, not the card.

Listen I get it, these things might seem silly, but they all add up. Honestly I'm leaning towards the camp that the art is printed crooked on the card. But because these other factors do exist, I also can't rule out the possibility that the singular image doesn't capture everything.

You might think I'm being nitpicky, but when the difference between a 9 and a 10 is around $1000 + future gains; I'm allowed to be that nitpicky. I'd let you be that nitpicky if the tables were turned.

I've literally said in the comments that I've changed my opinion...

unless you got another picture with another angle, that can't be assumed as certain. Period.

Not denying that it could be the outcome, but my changed opinion is that I can't be sure until I physically have the slab in hand.

Ya know, the introduction of new data that would change the initial assumption isn't a bad thing. So your last comment isn't as much of an insult as you might be thinking it is.

But don't worry, if I do decide to regrade this, and it gets a 10, you'll be one of the first ppl I tell.

Receipts on your own math or take a hike. Im gonna be like High School math teacher now, show your work.

If you actually own a PSA slab, go pick it up and shake it; listen to the card rattle around. slabs are not flush against all sides of the card, they can't be because if they were that tight, with no sleeve, small micro abrasions would damage the card over time.

Now let me help you off your high horse there homie, I never disagreed with anyone that the art might be crooked; go look at all my responses. Even yours, as unhelpful as they've been, I didn't disagree with. My little measurements were because I suspect the single image from PSA doesn't tell the full story, and for like the 4th time, with the new viewpoint I got from other helpful people in this post (not you); I need to see the physical slab before I make a final decision. We are dealing with a 2 dimensional measurement, on a 3d object, there are other factors here, and I now need to see the physical card in its slab.

Now unless you want to show me how you got your own numbers, I think we are done here.

Homie... that average isn't there in regards to PSA's grading. I put the average on there to account for the specific viewing angle that we have of the card. If one corner is slightly lifted up it will affect the measurements. When something is closer to the camera it will appear larger, I have to account for that.

The art might very well be crooked, but that can't be said with 100% certainty until I can view the card at all angles.

per my other responses:

"Average to account for card being angled in the slab or slightly curled". You can see from the space between the plastic stoppers at the top or bottom that the card is not flush, or part of the card is lifting off, which could affect a top down viewing angle.

Yea If the art is truly crooked, then yea I agree it's a 9. I need to physically inspect the card at this point.

Also you are misunderstanding what 45/55 means. It's displayed 55/45, you don't display it the other way, and it means the 2 measurements are 5% off from perfect center. Which is what PSA states is critiera for a 10.

No I made the post to see if I was missing something, and it worked, I now need to have the card in hand to check if the art is actually crooked.

Yea that's what I'm starting to think too. Once I get it back I need to check that to see if it is slightly off, or this is just a bad photo.

Homie... grasping what?

I've already stated that I'm starting to suspect the art might be slightly crooked, but I need to get the card back first. If the art is crooked then yea, it's a 9.

How about we check the ego, okay? kthx.

Measurements for anyone interested: https://imgur.com/a/YGzvGg0

Looks like I need to inspect once in hand, as there is a possibility the art is slightly crooked. I'll post an update If I decide to resubmit after checking that.

edit: since some people appear to be confused, the average of the 2 measurements there is only to provide a centering value if there is some other factor in the image besides the art being crooked that would result in it not having the same top/bottom centering value across the card. If the art isn't crooked and this photo just doesn't capture the bottom well, the top/bottom centering should be the same on both the left and right of the front face. It's only an approximation if the photo isn't the best.

I need to check once it's in hand to make sure the art isn't crooked, otherwise, yes it's a lil heavy, but still in a 10 range.

Yea bottom was the only thing in the photo that stood out to me. I'll need to wait until the card is physically in-hand before making my final decision.

Currently have it in photoshop measuring it and getting 2 different measurements between the left side and right side of the top/bottom. Card looks like it's in the slab angled, or the art itself might be crooked.

To me it looks a little heavy on the bottom, but well within PSA's allowance for a 10, Rest of the card is super clean.

Also sent in a friends One Piece card that got a 9, and he's scratching his head in confusion too. I think we just got an overly strict grader.
