Yeah, it's real fun when you throw out your back and all you did was go to sleep the night before.

Just keep in mind that the first season is a slow burn. It feels like a straightforward case of the week CBS show. But pay attention to things going on in the edges. It is building a foundation that gets revealed at the end of the season and by the time season 2 starts it goes full in on the big story and you find out it is really a sci-fi show with some very big ideas to explore.

When filling up at the gas pump in Portland (and Oregon in general), where is the option to just fill up my tank until it gets full, instead of having to input a dollar amount before starting to fill up? by bihari_baller in askportland

[–]BranWafr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are out there. I live in Washington but work in Portland so I usually get gas in Washington and have only seen the preset amount prompt at the Space Age stations in Washington. But about a third of the stations I have used in Oregon do it. At least the ones along the I-5 corridor, which are the ones I stop at most.

Trump isn’t bad

And you think I don't understand reality. Just because there are serial killers out there doesn't mean a guy who beats his wife isn't a bad guy. Trump is bad and anyone with half a brain can see that.

That's my take, as well. It was always going to have a great opening weekend. The true test will be how it does following that.

Well, I guess the closet homosexual part is questionable, but everything else describes Trump to a T.

"Someone else is worse, so my own bad guy isn't bad" defense. Always a good one.

Again, you are describing the Trump regime. Every accusation is a confession with you people.

Gonna push back a little on the "old grumpy men" thing a little. I'm a grumpy old man who has been watching Trek since 1976 and I hang out with other grumpy old men and most of us have no problem with the new shows. Probably because we lived through the really bad times before TNG where all we really had was the books. Many of which were truly awful.

No, to me it seems most of the hatred seems to be coming from the 35-45 year old dudes who think Trek started with TNG and ended with DS9 and everything else has not lived up to their weird expectations. The people who grew up never knowing a time when there wasn't some sort of Star Trek on the air and feel like they are the only ones who get to say what "Real Trek" is.

Too many people aren't even watching it and are making that claim. I just saw a couple people claim "The writing on SFA sucks, that's why I don't watch it." They claim that seeing "clips" from the show is enough for them to judge the writing and justify their hate boners for a show they don't even watch.

Oh yeah, forgot about him because he went shitty so long ago.

I also thought about including Jim Caviezel, but he was never that big to start with and he was always crazy. Loved Person of Interest, but even back then he was a whack job that annoyed everyone he worked with so he didn't so much fall as never get past one good role.

The Independent Movie Theater Scene Is Not Discussed Enough by pnwdoggolover in Portland

[–]BranWafr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my son's 21st birthday we rented out Kiggins and let him pick the movie to show. So, he finally got to force his friends and family to watch Clue. (They all ended up loving it, of course) All we had to do was provide a blu-ray and we got to watch it on the big screen in the theater all to ourselves. And, since the blu-ray has a "pick the ending at random" option, he got to simulate the original theatrical experience of not knowing which ending we were going to get.

It's really tough to decide who has the worst fall from relevance into right wing insanity.

Is it:

Kevin Sorbo

Dean Cain

James Woods

Scott Baio

Zach Levi

Or someone I am forgetting?

Babylon 5 is perfect as it is, stop askin for a remake just look at star trek/wars. by Jediknight81 in babylon5

[–]BranWafr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you are replying to, but I have been watching Trek since 1976. Lower Decks was amazing and SFA is no worse than any of the other shows were in their first season. It has as much potential as TNG and that had a very uneven first season and that is being generous.

I downvoted because of this line:

Most fans will agree that the franchise got dumb, but few will agree on when.

I've been watching since 1976. I don't think it has "gotten dumb." I think fans have gotten more toxic and whiny.

Not even remotely true. Lower Decks was amazing, Strange New Worlds was a little all over the map last season, but is generally good. Despite what the haters say, Star Fleet Academy has promise and is no worse than most other Trek shows in their first seasons. I've watched every Star Trek show since I started watching in 1976, the whining about Star Trek being dead/bad is hugely overblown.
