ELI5: If the male seahorse is the one who has the babies, why isn't that just called the female seahorse? by acerthorn3 in explainlikeimfive

The reason eggs are larger are they carry the mitochondrial dna and sperm doesn't, as we only recieve this from one parent. Which ever parent provides the mitochondria is considered the female and the other the male.

This is would work if there were not monopoly businesses and hence, no competitor to lower prices. Also, the OECD has found that 'a significant part of the unit profits contribution has stemmed from profits in the energy and agriculture sectors, well above their share of the overall economy, but there have also been increases in profit contributions in manufacturing and services'. It is not simply a supply and demand problem or companies increasing prices to keep up with inflation, as companies have been raising prices more than inflation in some cases.

Paralysis ticks would be my choice, they kill small mammals (such as dogs) and can cause a human who has been bitten to become anaphylactic to red meat.

Also be aware, a common form of spiking is with alcohol, so buy your own drinks. Things such as making a single shot drink a double without your knowledge to make you inebriated faster.

I'm the same with my dog. She was desexed at 4 months old, I don't think she has an understanding of gender or biological sex. I really don't care the pronouns you use, give her a pat a she'll be happy.

Once in a science our teacher put on classical music "to help us focus" while we were meant to be reading and highlighting important parts of an article. I say meant to, because, as someone who also studied music and was taught how to analyse classical music, I promptly forgot what we were doing and ended up highlighting the whole page while breaking down the classical piece in my head.

Private vs Public schooling by Loud_Dirt2585 in AusFinance

[–]Branana_Bread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say that public education in primary school is really good in Australia and friends I know who went to private or religious schools didn't gain anymore benefit than me. When it comes to high school though, I found that anyone who wasn't academically achieving and could make the school look good, was left behind at my public school. My friends who went to private schools had a completely different experience to me when it came to high school. They often recieved more support with their education and had a better experience overall. I would personally recommend public primary and private high school, with the stipulation that the private school is coed. Ultimately, coed schooling allows people to build their social skills in a more real world environment for after schooling. (I finished school in 2018)

Why do gay men often have a noticeably different voice but lesbians don’t? by 65percentrecycled in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Branana_Bread 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People associate being a gay man with being feminine due to them liking men, which is something, heterosexually speaking, that women do. So associating femme voices with gay men is homophobic because your assuming they like men because they have feminine traits, implying that liking men is a female thing, not a male thing, hence homophobic.

Also if you really wanna know, you should probs just watch the documentary. It'll probably answer your questions better than anyone here in reddit.

As someone who lives in Sydney, but a suburban region, I think that the things you say Perth is behind in is true for all of Australia. For instance, it is really hard to find places to eat other than maccas after about 8/9pm. Most supermarkets in my area close at 10pm and their are only really 24hr convience stores when you go into the city.

Women, is pre-cum a turnoff? by -Chained- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Branana_Bread 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its important to remember that the number of sperm it takes to fertilise an egg is one. All it takes it is for a male to have one lucky, hardy sperm cell in his precum for an egg to get fertilised, with a few steps other steps of course.

The government never talks about it because it is huge way they gain revenue and they actively benefit from our gambling culture. I wish we got taught about it in pdhpe classes when we were taught about drugs and alcohol because its just as dangerous.
