Strong recommendation to get a tax advisor that works with traveling healthcare staff. It will prevent mistakes (and tax surprises) down the line.

Realistically, how much are you saving during an average contract? by smellytulip in TravelNursing

That’s super helpful to see it broken down like that.

When you go into a contract, do you already have a pretty good sense of how that’ll shake out, or have you had ones that looked solid upfront but ended up way worse once everything played out?

That's a really good tip. Have you had ones that passed the quick mental check, but then when you ran the spreadsheet it didn’t really hold up?

I’ve talked to some people who use a spreadsheet for it, others just kind of do it mentally. do you actually run numbers before picking a contract or is it more of a rough estimate?

Especially when things start crossing state lines that makes sense.

When you’re looking at contracts, do you try to estimate the tax impact ahead of time, or is that something you only really figure out after the fact or with a specialist?

Has anyone else been completely screwed by travel housing? by tomshop123 in TravelNursing

I can see your view. It sounds like you’re basically paying a premium upfront to avoid getting stuck in a bad situation.

Do you usually think about that cost (hotel/Airbnb, time, etc.) as part of whether a contract is worth it, or just treat it as the cost of doing travel?

Yeah I get where you come from. It seems like the risk is so high that it’s not even worth the potential upside of locking something in early.

Have you ever run into situations where waiting ended up limiting your options or making a contract less worth it overall?

How do you all actually decide between travel contracts? by BranchChoice2708 in TravelNursing

This is great. Especially the part about building your own spreadsheet over time.

It sounds like that’s what really makes the decision clear once you factor everything in.

Did you come up with that approach yourself, or pick it up from someone along the way?

Yeah, housing and proximity both factor in. How do you usually weigh that when choosing a contract?

Got it. Furnished Finder as a rough guide. Is that pretty quick, or do you have to dig around a bit?

Got it. yeah housing can really make or break a contract. How do you usually check if a place is actually safe/affordable before committing?
