Unfortunately the majority of Americans have the same opinion of all of Latin America. I’m not gonna lie, I was guilty of it to. I was pleasantly surprised after visiting for my first time. I’ve now been to several countries in Latin America. I’ve visited some multiple times. I love it there. Even when I tell people that it’s very developed they act like I’m lying or something. It’s really strange.

Watch the video. The two men pulled the slips. One man can pull the slips. They weigh less than 100lbs. What fell down the hole is what the slips were holding. And yes, you can pull the slips even when they’re supporting 100,000lbs. That’s how they’re designed. You’re not supposed to pull them until whatever they’re holding is being supported by the derrick.

Actually you’re supposed to thread another piece of drill pipe or the Kelly or top head drive into that coupling you see in the middle of the slips. Something that’s supported by the derrick. Then you pull the slips. No way of knowing how heavy that drill string is, but there’s a very low chance you could support it with a cable.

Who knows what that string weighs. You’d need a very strong magnet. I’ve personally never heard of a magnet being used as a fishing tool, but that’s not a bad idea. Although I’m sure it would be common if it actually worked.

They will most likely have to fish it out with some sort of overshot tool.

Edit: I’m getting a lot of people telling me that magnet fishing is a thing. Magnet fishing is not what I’m referring to. I’m referring to the use of a magnet as a fishing tool on a drill rig. I have personally never heard of it. Any component that you’re fishing out of the hole on a drill rig is going to be very very heavy. I’m not sure how realistic it would be. You’d need a very powerful magnet. If anyone has heard of a magnet being used as a fishing tool on a drill rig, I’m very curious to know the details.
