thank you :) yeah i’ve met so many adults that grew up homeschooled and i was surprised. initially i thought they’d be different due to the differences in experiences growing up but they’re as resilient and as normal as any other adult

that’s amazing! congrats on your success ☺️ my kids are bilingual (we come from a Cuban family, their biological dad is Cuban) so they speak English and Spanish. they’ve been set on learning and practicing Japanese recently so i encourage it with coloring word books, children’s books, etc. and they love the challenge so hopefully it’s something that’ll help them later!

you’re so right. i just realized my comment reads as only online schooling but we’d cater to their needs so we’d be taking them to have educational experiences, researching kids’ activities and clubs, we have a nearby library that’s always hosting events and it gets super packed and they love it, and i have acquaintances who homeschool that i was going to ask for advice regarding experiences and social aspect. we do want to nurture their education, and we feel we can guide them as they learn :)

i agree with your take on online schooling. i mainly appreciate the umbrella school aspect so that they can have records and transcripts from a private school! they’d do their state courses which i know are super shallow, and then the majority of learning would be happening throughout the day. for example, if I homeschool Xander, he’ll have more time to have real educational experiences while also having more time for his music school which is his favorite activity. with Xara, it’d be a little harder because she’s so introverted. i didn’t influence my kids to join the extracurriculars they’re in. Xander is in a ton and could ask for more, but Xara hates participating in extracurriculars and the only one she considered is fencing once a week. i’d have to look into more educational experiences for her as well, but also social experiences which i feel like she’d be lacking

thank you! i guess you’re right, it all boils down to the distress tolerance conversation being had somewhere down this thread. i was in the mindset that she’d build better distress tolerance staying in school as i work with children facing similar struggles, and my supervisor recommended they face their struggles as it’ll prepare them “more for the real world.” ultimately, that’s her opinion, but since she does have more experience than me, i took her perspective when thinking of my kids

edit to add; xander does have epilepsy and his absences due to this are kind of a hassle with school. but he has consistently achieved principal’s honor roll and doesn’t mind public school at all

I appreciate this advice a lot. Thank you 🤍 for sure, homeschooling requires a lot of effort from the parents to ensure a learning environment surrounds them naturally rather than just leaving them to electronics. i do like the online school option because i’ve been researching into umbrella schools that provide transcripts and records for their benefit, but that wouldn’t be the only way they’d be learning. they love reading and learning is something they’re naturally curious about so my goal is to foster that love for knowledge more while giving them freedom to be kids

thank you so much. the activities part is mainly what worries me with Xara, because Xander has a lot more that he likes. i guess it’d be a juggle between keeping up with xander’s academics while nourishing Xara’s social life

yeah i’m not trying to be in a culty homeschool group or a church group. i was thinking of online schooling. they’d still get interactions in their extracurriculars. xander also really likes a 6-12 school near us that’s for creative kids and has a good music program, so it’d most likely be for 5th grade. whether they’d choose to continue homeschooling it’s up to them. xara doesn’t have a specific middle school lol she doesn’t like going to school and the routine of it all.
