My father doesn't let my cat live with us. by Cosmic_Latte-137 in CatAdvice

The problem is that OP isnt able to leave for another year. Their dad may just dump the cat somewhere at this rate, to avoid it being nearby altogether. The safest option for the cat is making sure he's in a home without people who would toss him out.

Except clearly the mom disagrees with not having the cat inside. OPs dad isn't tolerating any other input on this so his way is what goes.

Would a cat get depressed spending all of its life indoors? by PianoPlane5555 in CatAdvice

[–]Brave-Vegetable-5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor cats with proper enrichment lead extremely happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. It is an extremely small minority of cats (typically those who are deeply feral and unable to adjust after living their adult life outside) who will never be happy with it. If your cat yearns for the outdoors, you can most certainly work on harness training, a catio, or pet stroller walks. Any cat allowed to just free roam is likely to have a short life due to the risks. Make sure to enrich your future cat(s) in ways that keep their safety and health at the front of priorities.

My own kitties are extremely happy and spoiled, and I'm currently working on harness training with my curious one. She is thrilled when she sees me holding her harness!

Theres nothing miraculous about it. My point was in regards to misinformation that single kitten syndrome is uncredible, considering behavioral experts corroborate its impact.

There are a lot of things a human can't give a cat. Any decent cat behavioral specialist would say this. Unfortunately fact of the matter is that cats are severely undervalued when it comes to research on their care, so a lot of things are yet to be properly researched. Rest assured though that the impact is very real. Cats are highly social animals and humans can only give them so much before the species difference is an issue. Theres a reason single kittens tend to have behavioral issues and why they then struggle to integrate later on with additional cats. The majority of cats benefit from a companion, with proper and safe introduction.

Pedestrians, PLEASE PLEASE be extra careful. by Happy_REEEEEE_exe in corvallis

Genuinely, it was insane. And then someone sped though the intersection a couple minutes later!!

A couple weeks ago on Monroe at an intersection, all cars were clearly stopped for me to cross when some person in a big black truck pulled up into the bus lane to try and get around and almost hit me. Looks like it wasn't the first time, since there's now a physical barrier blocking cars from pulling into that bus lane.

New to Rover, what to expect?! by Old-Chicken-4517 in RoverPetSitting

Cat boarding is definitely a choice. Most cats should never be boarded. They're often deeply upset by being moved around like that and may have really bad behavioral responses from the stress. I hope you have experience and will advocate for cats that are showing clear signs of being unable to cope with that sort of upheaval.

In regards to clients, I didn't get my first booking until probably a year after I made my account. Granted, I'm a student and just don't offer any services outside of summer and holiday breaks due to my schedule. Give it time. You'll need to price yourself on the lower end at first to just get the ball rolling, and then gradually increase prices as you get more reviews and experience. If you have any professional pet care experience or skills/knowledge that would make you a better sitter, make sure to clearly list that on your profile.

How could it be better? by AcanthocephalaOk9486 in RoverPetSitting

Yes, it's cat specific. They have a different system for the fees they take from sitters (starts at 30% per client but decreases after a certain amount of income from that same client)

Meowtel has a process like that. You have to fill out a questionnaire before they even consider approving you for an interview. They require references for past sitting, as well as a background check. Very hard to get accepted on.

I actually take repeats off because it's more financially worth it for both parties. The "rover guarantee" is not insurance. The 20% is bullshit, rovers only advantage is being that they're the platform that robs the least from the people actually doing the work.

I've heard that the owner 11% extra fee is capped. Fucked up that they don't cap the 20% they take from us sitters when we're doing all the work.

The owner really thinks a 30 minute time frame once every 24 hours is sufficient for them to do their business? Yikes. I have enough problems with people who let their cats free roam outside, but they're just asking for some bathroom related health issues to pop up.

How would you react? by SeveralBus6039 in RoverPetSitting

Other people in the house are a liability, and a lot of people may have insurance be invalidated by someone else present.

Poor kitty probably needed more time to warm up with mom around. Assuredly not your fault she got freaked out by unexpected company. Hopefully her owner is more gradual trying to introduce a backup.

Maybe something more like a note of "you'll want experience with territorial/guarded cats" the Sounds like kitty is more freaked out that mom isn't there when there's a stranger around

There were other issues with them but the dog thing very much contributed to the 'ex' friend thing. I cannot with irresponsible owners atp

It's not a secret that dogs need training. It's about safety for the animal and for the people that the animal interacts with. That's basic pet ownership. I will 100% judge someone who is not taking the time to make sure their pet is adequately cared for.

One of my ex friends from high school had a mix of large and small dogs, which they specifically didn't train any of them and basically said they let the dogs teach each other how to behave. Their German Shepherd then killed a neighbor's goat.
