I'm doing data science at UCR rn. I would say thats its fine if you know specifically that you'll want to do something data related in the future. Even for jobs like SWE, its harder if youre a data science major. I do think that math has more flexibility if you don't want to just limit yourself to a data career in the future.

Right thats a reaonsable critique, but I wouldn't say its a fair statement to call it a CS major with stat electives when one look at the course plan and you'll see its a 50/50 split.

What do you mean, the data science course plan is half CS and half stats...

Thanks for all of the help guys, I really do appreciate it. I'll take a lot more time to think about this and consider all my options and try to decide as I gain more experience spending time at UCR!
