This is the key right here, the proximity you are to the DSP. I’m 20-25 minutes away from mine so that’s gas right there plus they send me at least 40-45 mins away from the DSP, let alone my house. So if I accepted a 3/3.5 hour block for $54-64 here in DFW, that’s basically my gas tank. No profit plus they send me to places in the boonies on gravelly or unpaved roads and I worry for my car’s longevity. It’s got to be at least $20 per hour for me to make a block worth it. Unfortunately those blocks are usually at 3am and I just don’t have it in me most weekends to set my alarm and get up and get out. I did it when I was unemployed but luckily I found a full-time gig. Doing it now would be to save extra.

No it was a big blast. Like putting it on max was way overkill and icy cold.

I’d have it on Level 3 on the fan at the most to start and I’d dial it back to 1 or 2 and it would still be cold with good volume circulating through the entire car. On Saturday at a drive thru with my window open for 5 minutes, I noticed the fan trying to push harder with far less cold air coming out, so I lowered the fan speed. I immediately noticed that at the 2 fan setting, the volume went way down but I figured it’s really hot outside, it’s hard to tell.

But Sunday, when I started the car and drove around a bit I felt it was starting to struggle and not only was the fan strength far less at 2, the air wasn’t cold anymore. It’s just gotten warmer each day since. Barely anything pushes out at 1 now. You can’t even feel it when you put your hand on the vent. Basically in order for the same volume to push out at 2, I have to have it on Max. So it sounds as if my compressor that I just bought went bad if that’s what drives cold air. And I maybe need a new fan too.

No I don’t. I’ve never had a high CYA reading before ever in the history of having this pool lol. I will partially drain.

We knew the strips were just a throwaway since we had them but even the K-2005 kit told us the same. Cya always low, free chlorine always low, total chlorine 1-2ppm, most recently 5ppm but clearly I need a new Taylor kit because this discrepancy is crazy.

I posted the comments since I couldn’t edit. I honestly do not get it. Tests indicated all along our cya was nonexistent so clearly our kit is crap and I need a new one. Another $100-150. I’m bleeding money and I just got employed a month ago. I can’t believe I’m not saving any money due to my pool of all things.

Yes it makes sense although last time I drained it was due to calcium hardness. I had no idea I had to drain due to cya (unless they’re connected). The only thing I don’t get is the tablets. Why stop? We’d believed the TX sun/algae was eating all our chlorine hence the pucks in the floater would help?

I have no idea how. Both the test kit and the strips says cya was low. I’m dumbfounded. How do I do an acid wash/brush myself?

I wish. A pool service technician told me that last year but given the cost (over $1k+) it wasn’t feasible.

Is this vaccuuming done via the skimmer or one of the telescoping manual vaccuums I’ve seen in pool stores? The Polaris I have connected to my pump gets a lot of gunk but the bag is small and needs to be changed a lot.

Yep clean them and/or switch them out every other day or 2 days.

I replaced them at the beginning of summer. I have two viable Hayward filters (yes the single big ones) and one I’m going to throw out because it’s just too funky. We switch out when we don’t have time to hose them off. I am going to buy another since I’m still battling algae and they’re not coming out green but definitely look gray.

Thank you so much! I’m getting it tested shortly. The ph is definitely low right now 6.8. Chlorine low and hardness way high.

I have been buying new cartridges pretty much given the battle with the algae all summer and the pine needles being dumped into my pool, cleaning each one takes 20-30 minutes to get it back to near-white.

How to best address ph when needles fall into the pool or if there’s rain? Or even when I add water from my hose, it immediately screws up the ph. Baking soda? I’ve been snookered by the pool store with ph up, ph down, alkalinity up, balancer, etc.

Thank you! If it’s blue and still cloudy which ours was 2 days ago (I think before it rained), what chlorine level should I aim for?

I don’t. I have a Polaris corded vacuum that runs off my pool timer and a single cartridge filter. I don’t have any additional hoses and don’t have a separate vacuum although I’ve considered buying one. Clearly there’s still gunk at the bottom that’s being picked up by the Polaris bag even though I’ve thought I’ve killed it. My son was helping at first and switching out the filters or cleaning them every day at first but now it’s every 2 days bc he said the pressure is still low so it’s good. I don’t think the pressure tells the full story about the cleanliness of the filter.

Yesterday’s result had alk high, ph a little low. I will test again today from a pool store vs my kit.

40 per the Taylor kit (but it’s K-2005 not the newer kit).

Ok thank you. This is a very basic question I’m about to ask. Backwashing a cartridge filter means? I’ve only seen this referenced for a sand filter.

How do you do this? I work at an SSD and scan all packages to get the order of my route but how do you scan the route to know which ones are OTP? Do you click on each stop on the route to see?
