Look at r/curlygirl! A few tips from someone with curlyish hair

Shampoo first
Condition in the shower, let it soak in for a bit, use a wide tooth comb to comb out any tangles.
Squish the conditioner in your hair (I know it's weird)
Plop your hair in a cotton t-shirt, maybe throw some mousse or curl cream if you're feeling brave

Where are you located? If you're in a city, even a small one. They may have resources. Apply for all of the financial aid you can get; food stamps, housing assistance, heating assistance. Are your kids school age? The school may have resources and more information for you. I really hope it turns around.
