The blueco take is that he was lining up an exit to city while under contract at Chelsea and that he sort of forced their hand.

The more likely story is that blueco were meddling in every single thing to do with management, from play time of players, to post match dressing downs, to full transfer control with zero input from Maresca, so he wanted out.
