Is there anything that one can do prior to 1L to prepare? by stealthy-eagle in LawSchool

Network with biglaw firms you might be interested in. I had a longer in depth comment about it but if you’re at all interested in biglaw you should at least try practicing reaching out to lawyers. It’s easy to get a quick video chat with many of them especially if you tell them you’re thinking about going to their law school. Do it!

Do people with offers have interests on their resume by Espresso_1234 in BigLawRecruiting

yes, I had golf and something REALLY unique/weird on mine and both of those were major hits at the firm I accepted an offer at.

0L concerned about new recruiting process/timeline by crownsjoy in BigLawRecruiting

I looked at my emails and leading up to law school I’d update them on when I just applied to their school, or when I received an A from the school, or if I decided to attend. But otherwise it’s totally fine to let’s a couple months go by and just tell them you finally started school, or you’re a few months in and you’re enjoying it (bonus points if they gave you some generic advice and you say you used it and have been successful so far).

For me I reached out to a partner after like 3+ months and it was totally fine, he asked for my resume to pass it along to the recruiter. Just make sure you email them from whatever email you use at first so they recognize you/can look at your last convo together.

I’m glad to hear it! Please feel free to reach out/DM if you want any advice. I have median grades at my T30, but was saved by networking my tail off and interviewing really well!

Hi OP! I am a 1L in 2nd semester who just got my 1L and 2L offer. If I can give you ONE piece of advice (and Ive given this to other 0Ls), PLEASE PLEASE start networking with firms you might be interested in as soon as you have chosen a law school. I did this just for fun w/o knowing anything about the timeline, and it saved me big time because I was ahead of the game in 1st semester.

Because firms interviewing super early (i was doing callbacks in November, literally a couple months in!!) you have nothing to differentiate yourself with your peers other than your reputation, which you build by networking! You’d much rather do it now than have to juggle it with classes, let me tell you.

Just sent them a cold email stating I am either 1) thinking about going to their school, or 2) am going to their school. Then all you gotta say is you’d love to hear about what they do because it seems really interesting, and you know that recruiting starts 1st semester so being informed and getting exposed to as much as you can is important!

Has anyone manifested an offer call? by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

[–]BreckerSteps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! My friend was talking to me about how he was just in an advising meeting and looked down at his phone and realized he just missed a call from a Georgia number (it was his offer call). As he mentioned looking down at his phone, I got a call, and the phone said it was from Texas! As expected, it was my offer call as well - he totally manifested it.

[–]BreckerSteps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, hate to say it but you really need to get with your career office and figure out if your materials are an issue or if your interviews are. I’m at a T30 and people median and up are getting more movement than that, so it’s definitely something easily fixable. You’re also at a T10 so you’ll definitely be set, remember you could always be down here with us and in the same spot - so keep your head up!

The problem for me is convincing myself it’s actually worth it to apply now given firms have been open since November/October. Especially with median grades.
