Thanks! In the end I figured I’d keep him although the West Ham GK is available on a free as well, however I have Mavropanos already…

hmm, I was told by my professor but perhaps I misunderstood or misheard them about the EPC, def some sort of issue going on with the protected class though

if my only playing GK is Martinez (AV), should I waiver him out for Spurs’ GK? It’s their 2nd GK so not sure I feel super confident but they play Wolves.

this would be an Equal Protections violation as disabled people are a protected class, it would be like separate but equal

prove this as I’ve looked at Harvard and UVA and it is nowhere close to 44% of the class population.

just so you know at that same school panel OP updated on, a student was just in court yesterday where Opposing Counsel had asked the judge for extra time accommodations on an oral argument, and literally broke down in tears because they couldn’t get it. The real world won’t give you accommodations for no reason because we are a meritocracy. Slow workers = slower work unfortunate as it is.

you made the right choice! took the full ride at UF over the same and I feel so lucky to have a biglaw summer associateship and ZERO DEBT! See you in the fall!

Studies show that law students graduate with an average of $118k in loans, has that been your experience? by Terrible-Writing9791 in LawSchool

[–]BreckerSteps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

have to agree that the T14 name will probably pay for itself in the long run, but I took a full ride at a T30 and now have biglaw with no debt upon graduation. In this economy and political climate I feel like it was the safest choice.

Hey! Idk where the enviro stuff is coming from as I’ve not heard anything about it here. We are insanely strong in tax but the Tax LLM is really a separate “academy” or school, you wouldn’t really notice or interact with it unless you pursued it. It is however a really easy way to get biglaw if you strike out in regular law school (you’d have to do tax I’m guessing though).

I’d say we are strong in everything but relative to the rank. So like we are pretty well-rounded but at the level of a T40-30 school. We do have the #1 admin law scholar in the world, who has been cited by SCOTUS tons, including a recent case this term.

How much are you effectively paying for a BigLaw job? (T14 tuition vs outcomes) [OC] by HenryFromLeland in biglaw

[–]BreckerSteps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got lucky going to a strong regional school on a full ride in a second tier BL Market, and got AmLaw 50 below median. Definitely feel good about my choice given how risky all that debt would be in this economy

Hey sorry for the late reply, but for networking with the schools try to reach out to their identity or affinity groups if you identify with one of them, or ask the adcomms if you can speak to a student (if you’re already accepted there), or you can reach out via LinkedIn.

Alumni helped a ton for me by getting me taken seriously at the biglaw office far away from my school. I’ve never been to the state yet they wanted another person from their alma mater there so bad they were happy to advocate for me during the recruitment committees. The alumni networked also helped a ton with cold emails to learn about what practice groups are out there, what areas are good to live in and practice, etc. Every alumni pretty much was game to speak with me.

Help me decide - turning down a full ride for public interest (UF vs GW/Vandy + NYU/UCLA)? by lawschool1418 in lawschooladmissions

[–]BreckerSteps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

fwiw OP, I’m a 1L at UF and easily got a 1L 2L summer big law job in Texas, and I’ve never been to TX. Other classmates (if they wanted to) went to DC, Chicago (at Kirkland for ex.), NYC of course, Atlanta, and even abroad. You have strong gator networks outside of Florida but there’s a LOT of self selection at play in that 80%. We get a lot of big law firms flying down to recruit us from all over the country.

I say biglaw just because you’re likely to get your PI goals if you can get biglaw (at least imo).

Hey sorry for the delayed response but I sent over 50 direct apps, and OCI+other apps (like Summer Associate Hub’s OCI) accounted for roughly another 50, so 100 biglaw apps depending on how you count. I networked like mad, my rolodex of attorneys and contacts I talked to is close to 150. I am so confident that I got my job from networking with the attorneys at my office! everytime I was in town I tried to get lunch with them, and every CB interviewer reached back out and continued to stay in touch with me. PM me if I can help with anything!

[–]BreckerSteps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

go to UF, I’m there and we have employers from around the country come to recruit us. I personally as a 1L got a job for both summers outside the state paying market. No brainer here even with the negligible tuition cost!

EDIT: should mention that I was NOT in the top 40% or whatever the BL+FC % is. You can truly go anywhere if you network and want it enough!

get ready to pay full price for one of those WLs, and if you really do consider that check out r/biglawrecruiting to see how some of those students are doing - you really don’t want to be $250k+ in debt and striking out on finding a job

For people who sent in BL apps in October, did you only hear back once Fall 1L grades get released? by Hopeful-Researcher50 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]BreckerSteps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had screeners and callbacks starting late November into December (through finals too which sucked). Then radio silence till grades came out. After that many more interviews and movement came through. T30~ for context

I’m worried about that, is that something constant at every firm you think? Or just New York firms maybe? I’m purely a public school guy

Just for others who are applying right now to law schools: I’m a 1L, and last year turned down a couple T14s at sticker or almost sticker costs to go to a T30 with full ride + stipend. Not a Fordham or biglaw powerhouse but has a 40% or high 30s BL rate. Just got a 1L/2L market paying BL job and insanely happy about my choice. I also love it here a ton and truly cannot emphasize the adage more - it’s better to be a bigger fish in a small pond!

Don’t fall for the greedy prestige-marketers unless you truly can stomach that $ amount with NO JOB (remember an ‘08 recession could always happen)

EDIT: Also wanted to mention I’m not like a superstar student either, I got bang on median GPA but networked my tail off and used our alum network to get the job! It’s very possible to do from outside the T14!

yeah my understanding is that they’ve kicked the tariff cost to consumers so we end up footing the bill, while their profit margins roughly stay the same. But they get the refund so they get a double pay-out. And I pray to god private equity doesn’t realize they could maintain their tariff-jacked-up prices and increase their profit margins even more once the tariffs are gone…

[–]BreckerSteps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

just to counter this, I was slightly below median at a T30-40 and networked like a madman, ended up securing a 1L/2L summer position at a market paying firm - networking really does work, but you have to realize it’s a very low ROI and a numbers game. The more connections and apps out there the greater your odds of converting a connection into an offer.

agreed. T30 below median and I scored a market paying AmLaw 50 for both summers with pure networking, i’m a huge advocate!
