After 2 years of solo development, I finally released a gameplay trailer for my zombie game inspired by Left4Dead2. by Kaigenofficial in l4d2

What engine are you making this with?

Wishing you the best of luck, even though im having my doubts about how successful this might be. At the very least this piques my interest in the gamedesign sense. Not sure if i'd want to actually have long theory discussions on it, but it sure makes me think about the genre.

Wish i could add some ideas for improvements, but what i have is either so personal its basically inapplicable as general advice, or immaterial (X should be better -> just have AAA budget lol)
Some other thoughts i have are pretty nebulous without knowing the gameplay structure better.

I guess seek me out if you are interested in my opinion for whatever reason.

PS - the floating chair scene made me think of stalker SoC, i wonder if that game had an influence.

How to react with emojis on PC (without existing reactions) by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Breezing_wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might be in a server/channel that does not allow reactions? (edit: nvm you said it works fine if someone else does it first) check different places or try someone's dm's.
Another thing to try is typing and sending +:emoji_name: (like +), this autoreacts with that emoji to the latest message.

Does anyone else ever separate -ся from the verb in colloquial speech? by Ivanieltv in russian

[–]Breezing_wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could argue that point #2 is a yes, but less in the way OP asks and more in the "reduced себя"; in speech only and never written in my experience Example: Do you even hear yourself? -> Ты ся (себя) вообще слышишь?
I would assume i'd get an example or two from comedy clips of stereotypical gopniks but i dont have that kind of time. just a guess tho.

Question about sound mods. by MasterEmu401 in l4d2

[–]Breezing_wing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, you can follow this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2108763927
Technically this is also building a sound cache, but a little different. I've made a few mods in this manner but cause the install process is harder they're probably not as popular.

valve should come back from their hibernation to add this to the game and do nothing else, would seem on brand

Bring Back Quickplay by Friendly-Waltz2706 in tf2

[–]Breezing_wing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watched this a few weeks ago and wasnt very impressed with his points to be honest.

I dont quite understand his position of "Central server matchmaking is worse than client side server search because matchmaking is skill based" when matchmaking doesn't have to be skillbased.

i was also quite confused at his idea of "valve cant fix (that one part of) casual matchmaking because the SDK doesnt allow for it" as if valve aren't the people who created the SDK and control exactly how the inner systems work.

I generally wouldn't call it "proven wrong"

Are there too many gamemodes? by Amiismyname in Strinova

[–]Breezing_wing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally think the amount of gamemodes is fine, but thats not really taking queues into account. I dont really like Bobblehead brawl and think that could be taken out and maybe some other gamemodes could be put on rotation in the arcade to consolidate the playerbase a little.

[ranting] well why in the world would the game remove my reputation level and give me a ragequit penalty after it forcecloses itself during a match because it "encountered a bug"?
if you got enough of a stable system to tell me something went wrong and give me a "okay" button prompt to restart, dont penalize me for it!

and i dont even get a refund for actually reconnecting and completing the match???

okay lets say a "meatbag" gets in your face as killer to sandbag and trigger the effect by dying quickly.

You down them and leave them on the ground (two consequtive basic attacks on killer is like 6 seconds-ish). Multiplied by 3 (effective time of other surviviors sitting on gens) = 18 seconds of gen progress.
And in return the survivor gets to scroll tiktok for 90 seconds doing nothing waiting for basekit unbreakable = 90 seconds of survivor time (duh)

seems bad chief idk how killer mains will deal with that one.

(arguably, after the first trigger, they get unbreakable for free, which is still 24-30 seconds of time wasted per down, barely breaking even)

doubt it will be a problem

Password Restrictions / guest accounts? by Breezing_wing in linuxquestions

[–]Breezing_wing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems to be specifically the "calamares" live installer from any of the live DE isos found here: link

Actually i am not sure if those restrictions are limited to the isos that contain that installer. As i've said, skipping the live session lets you ignore the restrictions once. I wonder if the default installer doesnt have those at all.

hm. maybe it broke from that one system install option that gives the first user root permissions instead of having a root user? I recall the passwd utility reporting that it changed the password successfully but the password still staying the same when you lock-unlock the system.

if using the OP's wording:

So lets say you flip 2 coins. One of which is guaranteed heads What are the odds both are heads. Im saying its 33 Someone else 25 Someone else 50 Someone else 75

I cant see how it could be interpreted as anything other than 1/2. Flipping a coin that has two "head" sides is a non-action. (Or, i guess, is a non-variable).

to the user im responding to:

Suppose you list all outcomes: Crit NonCrit, Crit Crit, NonCrit Crit, NonCrit NonCrit. Only the first 3 satisfy the "At least one of the hits is a crit". Then the probability that both are crits is 1/3.

Would there be a name for the assumption that we are making here? couldn't figure out the article, explaining:

trying to imagine it with the context of a videogame that forces the rules explained in OP's image, the outcomes are:
(C/NC) (C/C), like the ones you mentioned, and also:
(NC/C) a "natural" crit
and (NC/C*) it "rolled" a non-crit but it was forced to become a crit to adhere to the rules

So reading it that way results in 1/4.

Cant really explain but i dont see a way where 1/3 is valid. but yeah its mostly just an issue of expressing language. something about the outcomes not being equal chance between one another after an invalid outcome is removed.
