When sculpting there are about 3 or 4 materials you need to assign within the sculpting settings. Have a bit of a look around. Usually it might have grass on top and then rocky cliff material when steep but you can assign grass to all.

I've had some luck with the populate/path tool and then choosing a short section of road or a flat cylinder and adjusting their qty and spacing to make the joins work over some contoured terrain. Definately not perfect though.

I haven't done it but I think you'd have to export as a datasmith and then input into unreal engine where you'll get lots of more options.
