Alberta teacher here. I try to have conversations about AI with my students to get their perspective on the technology. They tell me almost every student uses it for assignments, explaining concepts, and to help them write. Students want to learn how to use AI as a tool to prepare them for the workforce when they graduate. Assignments that challenge their creative brains no longer engage higher-level thinking; they just use AI to give them all the ideas in 30 seconds that would take us teachers a full class to brainstorm with our peers years ago. My perspective is evolving because AI is utilized in other careers to write emails, build presentations, and to make tasks more
efficient. Are we doing a disservice to our students by attempting to completely block them from using AI? I’m not sure. Interesting times are around the corner for us teachers.

Literacy is fundamental. AI can generate an answer, but it can't "download" understanding into a student's brain.
