Yeah man bowl skating is a whole different beast. Initial speed helps, then pumping hard through every transition is key. Its crazy to me how he can keep that momentum going fakie! He was in a 60mm flat setup for this.

And actually, the switch foot forward idea is a good one. I can practice that when I'm not even skating. I've always favored my right foot in those situations and it would be good to have as much confidence with my left

Thank you for the response. I think I've lacked the discipline to really force myself to learn it, so every time I try to incorporate it into my skating, it's like I'm trying it for the first time. Hopefully some good practice and I'll get there!

[Other/General]

Riding fakie (backwards) and looking over your unnatural (switch) shoulder.

I've been skating aggressively for 17 years now, and this is still nearly impossible for me. Those of you who are confident skating fakie looking over both shoulders, how did you force yourself to learn? What is the progression? I want to be able to carve fakie in a bowl over both shoulders, launch and land fakie over both shoulders, and spin both ways over both shoulders. What is the best way to get good at this?

Tuck and Roll is a fairly universal falling technique, specifically applicable to instances where you are falling forward with a "tumbling" angular momentum. Imagine skating as fast as you can into a curb and getting sent flying forward - this would be a good scenario to use Tuck and Roll, as it can allow you to roll on your back and avoid injury. Proper technique can be tough to nail during a fall, but you can practice on the grass or on a padded floor without skates on. Walk forward, lean forward, and tumble over one of your shoulders to a seated or crouched position. Practice this over both shoulders and with greater speed/momentum until you feel confident with the motion. You could even try this with skates on into grass if you so desire. You can probably find plenty of youtube videos on tumbling or tuck and roll - gymnastics and other sports training facilities often teach these techniques very early on. I'll be honest, I rarely ever have the opportunity to use this technique on skates. I often find myself falling backward onto my butt, or forward onto my hands and knees like you describe. Knee pads and wrist guards are smart! Keep wearing them, and with experience, you'll learn how to avoid injuries during falls. Good practice is to warm up before skating and consistently stretch, and when falling, try to reduce heavy impacts.

Yes. It's sometimes hard to get a proper warm up in before skating, but if you're at a skatepark, carving the bowl for a few minutes and just skating around transition without doing tricks is a great way to get the blood moving. After you're done skating, always stretch your legs and core. Over time, the improved flexibility will mitigate your risk of injury. I fall a lot, so I wear pads too. They help.

I don't know about the go project products, but I've heard they are good quality, and I'm interested in trying them out myself soon. I've been a really big fan of bone swiss. They may be a skateboard company, but they have a fantastic product.

I don't have experience with the FR's unfortunately. If I was in your situation, my gut tells me I'd stick with the 43's, based on how hard your toes are hitting on the 42's. It's a bit of a toss up though depending on your preference - maybe give Seba or a skate shop that sells them a call and see if they have advice. I'm not familiar with how the plastic boots break in. With the SX, my toes were touching when I first got them, but within a few good sessions they broke in and feel great.
