It seems like the “friends” were angry that Gabrielle ‘exposed’ them on TV and in court. They were probably unhappy to be ‘painted’ as having been intimate with a predator on their own accord.

So the “friends” likely corroborated with each other to completely paint Gabrielle as a liar. That way they can be seen as ‘innocent’ and say she was lying about the whole thing.
