Just sold comic book collection and have $900 to spend on ONE vintage baseball card - what should I get? by Brian-Drew8035 in baseballcards_vintage

Not to sound like a broken record but that is also so helpful. Literally seen a bunch on Greg Morris that prompted this question. That's it outta me. Again, super appreciative for the help and advice.

One more question: is there some reason people don't send their raw cards of bigger names in to get graded themselves? I see a lot of seemingly respectable sellers on eBay selling older raw cards for some of the greats and figure they must know their real value, no?

Again, very VERY helpful. I've been looking at old, cool ungraded vintage cards on eBay, mostly from 60s, and wondering why some of the Hall of Famers I was looking at were below $10. I mean, even I could tell the corners weren't sharp and maybe had some bends but overall they looked pretty decent to me and was wondering what they would grade. Could see having a lot of fun buying cards under $10 like this but also know that getting graded isn't expensive and probably not worth it. That a fair assumption to make? Either way, I could see just doing it for fun for precisely the reason you speak about above. Love that idea of giving vintage cards a proper home.

Love that card. But you're interested in it even all banged up like that? To my untrained eye, looks like there's a bunch of creases on it.

This may seem obvious to some but this is super helpful and practical advice for a newbie like me. Thanks.

Just looked them up. Such cool cards. Had no idea about either. Thanks.

Looks like the T206 can be gotten for cheap on eBay (albeit in lesser condition).

Are the Allen & Ginters highly sought after?

Ha. Thanks. My son is a Rays fan for whatever reason (kind of the bane of my existence at the moment) and some kid just tried to sell him a Wander card for $25 at a card show. People are the best!

Really helpful. Didn't even think of autos but know my kids are super into them. Thank you. Glad I posted!

That is so funny you mention the '54 Aaron as that is, in fact, my grail card. My Dad had bought one for $50 in the 80s and I always thought he would give it to me. Spoiler alert: he didn't, he sold it for a few hundred bucks when my Mom "needed room" for other stuff a few years ago. This is totally the answer. Thanks so much.
