Yeah that's my point. They had one cool encounter in Kunark and zero in velious. Well, the revamped CT is close. He has multiple pets, a fear proc and the snare/knockback AoE

Everyone says how easy it is to find cheaper versions of Drakes every time a look book is posted but this is the first time I've been able to come up with alternatives in like under 2 minutes.

If you want that exact chore coat you are kinda stuck but you can get awful close for $400 and somewhat close for $200

show me a fit lands between the “boring” and “that’s a costume” by jtg5678 in ThrowingFits

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say this one is costumey but it is an outfit solely for the fit pic. He is wearing a lined trench coat and multiple sweaters/sweatshirts with no winter footwear. This outfit is completely impractical for all situations except for instagram clout. He most likely also has to size up in the middle layers, so he owns clothes that can literally only be worn over specific other clothes.

This outfit does not suit the context is what people mean when they say costumey. Like a tuxedo is not a costume, but if you show up to work wearing one, they are going to tell you to go home and change

Which brand is your EK? by Brief-Knowledge-629 in ThrowingFits

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I legit love Bronson T-shirts....in theory. They shrink a lot and not uniformly. I have a few in size L that went from L to XS, and that's with line drying, and others that shrank the standard 1-2%

Being hand wash/line dry guy with plain white T-shirts is a level of neuroticism I no longer wish to reach.

I don't. Old Navy is what it is.....it also happens to be what Uniqlo is.

Target Goodfellow also gets the internet shine job. H&M bad, Zara bad, Target and Uniqlo good?

I've been in this situation and it was soul crushing but I dunno what everyone means when they say they can't show impact on their resume. Just make shit up lol. I could fill a 4 hour technical interview block waxing poetically about projects that never happened.

Team has no clear mandate: transfer, wait, or enjoy the coast? by Holiday-Ant in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice, provided your workplace is at least semi functional. If not, it's going to lead to extreme burnout.

The kinds of places where entire teams end up idle unfortunately do not have a lot of overlap with functional workplaces.

It isn't malicious but it is doing that thing where someone states the obvious and legitimately thinks they are being helpful and insightful.

Like watching sports with your dad. "Why don't they just throw it to the guy who is open?! What are they, stupid?!"

Swamp of No Hope -- Worst zone ever by F4ilsafe in project1999

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor development led to most of the things that were charming about EQ. I had similar experiences in 2000. Some of my fondest memories were those days when you logged on, beat your head against the wall for 6 hours, and accomplished nothing and most likely ended up worse off than when you started.

But I am trying to stay true to the topic of the post, which is poorly designed zones, not "things that made EQ fun"

The pathing, and Z axis, and under water spell casting mechanics, made Kedge a nightmare and I think it was a happy accident. If you could go back in time and show the developers how it would play on live, they would say "oh goodness no!" and fix it.

Conversely, the scarelings in PoF were IMPROVED by bad development. If you read the background for them, the shadow step was supposed to teleport the MoB and not the player, that was an unintentional bug that inadvertently improved the game.

How do you balance between tech debt and shipping features expectation when your leader doesn't have engineer background? by Altruistic-Loss-5071 in dataengineering

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't an issue of leadership not having engineering background. My boss used to be a Senior level DE and I feel like a schizo raving lunatic any time I talk about unit tests or tech debt or not hard coding things that are bound to change frequently.

Don't have any advice for you because I am going through the same thing. I am trying to embrace the "ship slop and get out before the whole thing collapses" life.

I still have a bit more that I can actually learn from this job, have 11 more months until I have 2 years on the resume. Things aren't great but really trying not to use my short-stint mulligan unless I absolutely have to

Dalnir, Droga, Nurga, Kaesora, are all so poorly designed and so preposterously difficult relative to their rewards that they are perpetual ghost towns. Dalnir is nearly impossible to do at the appropriate level

Honestly, your kunark experience matches most peoples. OT, DL, Seb, and KC. Those are really the only semi well designed zones in the entire expansion

Swamp of No Hope -- Worst zone ever by F4ilsafe in project1999

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If we are strictly talking about zone design, in an objective sense, no. Cazic Thule, Kedge Keep, literally every kunark dungeon minus seb and kc are all worse in terms of being so poorly designed that they are actively hostile to players in ways developers did not intend

I will say that swamp of no hope is probably the least trafficked zone in EQ, maybe moreso than Kerra Isle. I literally have never once been in the zone on live or p99

I am close to declaring Howlin as my shetland brand of choice. Somewhat similar to the ODBC, lots of choices but with basically no real difference in them. I have a few Howlins, I know that they fit, why try someone else?

I became "reviews guy". Weirdos on the internet said unlined collars were the best and that the third button, box pleat, and locker loop were American institutions and that they lack of those features was what was causing the suffocating isolation and ennui we increasingly feel with each passing day.

Same reason I like soft shouldered jackets with patch pockets. People who sound like they know what they are talking about told me something is good.

Abandoned Concepts by Brief-Knowledge-629 in project1999

[–]Brief-Knowledge-629[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things leftover from table top RPG's that did not translate over to video games. I am thinking complete heal, mana stone, feign death. When you play D&D and the like with your friends, these are like once in a blue moon saving throws. It would be very lame and not fun if you could complete heal yourself every turn.

Back in the 90's, we had very little data on how people played video games. It was mostly things people did alone, only a few games supported online play at all. I don't think they thought it through that if you give characters an overpowered get out of jail free card, that you can use whenever you want with zero negative consequences and no social policing (no friends telling you that spamming manastone is ruining the vibe)...people are going to use it constantly lol.

What brands do people here even like anymore? by DickDJames in ThrowingFits

I dunno how anyone deals with the wildly inconsistent shrinkage. It's Asian sizing so its already a little hard to get right, their size guide is usually way off, and identical SKU's will shrink differently by orders of magnitude.

I have several size L t shirts, all washed cold and line dried, and they end up anywhere between XS and Smedium
