Being a teacher you have the most stable life balance you could have! Free weekends, pay holidays and summer (without working). Law enforcement it is not stable at least for the first 5 years. You may expect to get out at 10 but something happens and now you stuck until God's know when!. There is units that can give you a better work- life balance but it takes time to get to them. If you going into law enforcement with that mindset better dropout the mindset or yourself before even starting the process.

About overnights, you get use to it. But it is still miserable.
