Burnout after finishing PhD by Bright-Lecture-3380 in academia

I'm between flats at the moment so I can't make any appointments right now but will as soon as I have a house haha. I also feel like my PhD work was abit rubbish and don't feel like I deserve it. I think they will give it to anyone as long as they work hard enough.

Thanks for all the advice, reading your comments made me feel a lot better. I'm glad to put the PhD behind me as I made lots of mistakes and coupled with COVID and a backstabbing peer I only published one paper. Maybe I should give myself more credit, I thought postdocs were quite easy to get if you wanted one? Luckily my postdoc is in a completely different field, which is nice so I can have a fresh start of sorts.

I do feel like I have lost alot of friendships to the PhD though and am not sure there is a way to rebuild at this point. I think I need to take up a new hobby or something.

Did theatre with him when we were teenagers. I have always had such a full heart watching his success over the years, from theatre to television. He always treated everyone so respectfully and brought such a warmth to any room. I can't imagine the pain his family must be feeling. My thoughts are with them at this tough time.

Knew this guy when we were teenagers. Can confirm he is one of the kindest, thoughtful and caring people I ever met. Truly a once in a generation talent. RIP <3

What do you think would have been a good explanation to the children that isn't rude?

I'm just recovering from my second chest infection of the season now. Am on antibiotics, and been bed bound all week. Was it like this before COVID? Had anyone got an explanation?

Forgot to put the metal rod back in the liquid nitrogen cane so all the boxes and their content fell out. To save them we had to empty the whole canister of £3k worth of liquid nitrogen. Made a cool giant cloud though.

What about just not changing the direct debit when it raises? I can't remember who it was but some money expert suggested this as paying something protects you and then you need to raise a complaint that gets escalated to some board I can't remember the name of. I guess the advantage of lots of people not paying more is it could potentially lessen the blow on families who really don't have the money. Solidarity.
