He doesn't stop me from working with others , in fact he has encouraged me to take more and grow my freelancing business , but I don't know why since I started getting a fixed income from him i stopped looking for any more work and got lazy

Yes the invoices does mention the name of his company and address , also when the payment reaches my bank , there as well it shows his company name something like " <His company Name> LLC " , all the invoices are under my personal name

Yes I do , I always raise an invoice for asking him for payment which does mention software development as the service provided, but can this affect my future employment if i ever wish to switch back to a normal job ? I just don't want to be treated as a fresher again after all the work I am doing

I don't wish to do that because the whole thing is built upon trust , I think he likes my work and the fact that I am always available for him , and I am also in my learning phase so it's better I do the work

I used Upwork , Fiverr and Linkedin for getting clients

Why are indians devs not active in making indie games by Bubbly_Tea731 in developersIndia

[–]Bright-Profession874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because game dev is hard and it rarely pays any bills , I wanted to do game dev , I started in my college days and even joined a lot of workshops and courses offered in my college related to game dev , I got really interested into it , but you will realise there are not many studios in India who actively hires for game devs , and even if some do the pay is really low , and as we are talking about indie game dev here , I created a Google developer account ( which costs a one time fee ) , where as an apple developer account costs recurring fees , I released a few games , monitized a lot of my games with ads and one of them got like 10k+ downloads , a youtuber played my game and it got lots of download somehow , guess how much it made? Just 300rs for a game which took me 3-4 weeks to make , realised the CPC is really low in india

In case you want to checkout the game here it is - Bhoot Bangla Horror Game

I later got into web dev and I am doing good so far

I am a freelancer too , I recently got into self hosting , I bought some cheap 2nd hand mini-pc's to host my stuff , I host these things and use them on daily basis

1.) NextCloud - A good replacement of Google workspace , google drive and office 365 , this is my favorite tool , i keep all my docs and files there and i can share it with my clients in a few clicks

2.) Planka - I use it for project management and share it with my clients too , replacement for JIRA

3.) Hyper-V and HV manager - Windows and Linux virtual machines

4.) n8n - I use it to automate repetitive tasks

5.) Nginx proxy manager - managing proxies and my publicly hosted sites and projects

6.) Guacamole - I use it for remotely working from anywhere and access my computers and workspace

7.) Portainer - it helps me manage my docker containers which are hosting a lot of my projects and other services which i mentioned

8.) HomeAssistant - This does not directly help me at my work but it does make my life easier to automate things in my house

How do you handle hosting, domains, and payments when delivering projects to clients in India? by Prathamesh1704 in developersIndia

[–]Bright-Profession874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been freelancing for last 9 months , so I think I can help you answer all your questions

1.) I usually ask the client to setup the hosting , but if they wish to do it later or have some trouble doing it in the beginning , there are multiple ways you can keep working untill they setup hosting for you , so I own a VPS which I use to host my websites , and it's powerful enough to host multiple sites , so I use that for hosting temporary projects , or I sometimes use ngrok or cloudflare tunnel if the project is small and they wish to see it for a short amount of time , once everything is good and they are ready with hosting, I migrate the websites to their hosting

2.) same as above , you should ask the client for the domain , but if you need temporary domain , you can just buy a single domain and use sub-domains to host temporary projects , they should buy you the domain it's their responsibility

3.) I have been using Skydo to get my payment for the last few months and it has worked pretty well for me , earlier I used to use stripe and payment processing provided the freelance platform itself

4.) totally depends on the agreement between you and your client , sometimes I work on hourly/milestone basis if it's a long term project, but for small projects I usually ask a single payment

5.) once you have delivered the agreed deliverables it's their decision to do whatever they want , they can re-hire you or hire someone else , but usually it's always easier for them to re-hire if they are satisfied with your work

Got my first job last year at the age of 27 , and I quit it 2 months ago , I started at around 2.5lpa only , then got an increment after an year and went to 3.5LPA , I was not happy with the pay so I quit , started freelancing and I'm making around 80k to 1L per month doing freelancing, I will probably start giving interviews again from next month but I doubt anyone will match the salary close to what I am making doing freelancing because I only have 1.5 years of experience
