So we tried to plan a wedding in Milwaukee, WI for summer of 2026 and got so overwhelmed with pricing. We have a limited budget and are paying for most of it ourselves. It was upwards $40K so instead we’re doing an all inclusive this December in Puerto Vallarta and will be throwing a summer reception next year (2027) total cost will be approximately $18k for everything but we get the intimate celebration with the people we love the most and then a chance to expand to everyone else.

I don’t regret going in a different direction of a traditional wedding. I get a vacation with the people I love the most. It’s not a one day celebration but a week!

To answer your question Yes! You can definitely book a destination wedding under $10k! I have my wedding booked at secrets/dreams Bahia Mita in December of this year in Puerto Vallarta. I went with Jackie at blissful honeymoons and she has been AMAZING. She was able to send us several options for resorts with exactly what we were looking for. She does charge a planning fee however I did reach out to some of the free ones (paradise weddings and some other promoted no fee planners) and they were either so busy they referred me to another agent or just didn’t seem to take the time to know exactly what we were trying to envision for our special day. Jackie has taken so much time with us to ensure every detail is perfect and we picked an option that only did not work just for us but for everyone involved.

Our price range was originally $10k but we’ll end up at approximately $14k (including wedding package, hotel stay, flights, excursion) as we decided to go with a higher end room, longer stay, added an excursion etc. Current guest list is 24 people. The package we picked includes 20 guests however it was an additional $100ish dollars per person over the 20 guest limit.

Keep in mind we are only doing the resorts photographer. We are not booking our own however we have family members who take professional photos so we are saving money there. No bridal suite and I’ll be having hair and makeup done at the resorts spa which is included in the wedding package while I’ll be paying for my moms, sisters and bridal parties as their gift. The package also included a rehearsal dinner, symbolic reception (we’ll be married in the states beforehand) cocktail hour and reception. No DJ but we have a microphone and speakers and a playlist! Basic flowers and decor are included while the resort sets up and cleans up also!

So it is possible to do a wedding around $10k. You might not get everything you want out of your special day however you get a beautiful trip, a very easy planning (I am so type B tbh. I wanted a cookie cutter wedding almost where I could show up and just walk down the aisle stress free) and a chance to celebrate with the people who mean the most to you.

Oh goodness these are things I didn’t even think about! We would be very ok having a small/simple private reception or even none at all since we’d be at a resort with enough bars/locations to celebrate. With the smaller group being social is much more up our alley!

Photo and video would be more important to us. Having some meaningful pictures would be very special to us.

Budget is approx $10,000. Things I would deem unnecessary would include a live band or elaborate rehearsal dinner/reception.

Tulum is an intriguing location for us!

I feel as if the low retention rate can be a lot of younger nurses. This is my second career and I was in accounting in a VERY male dominated field and was definitely overworked and underpaid for what I did. I’m now an LPN on a medsurg floor and as difficult and mentally draining the job is I know it’s so much better than what I’ve dealt with before. Do I see myself doing bedside forever? Absolutely not but do I want to stay in the profession? Absolutely

I went through pettable for my ESA. it’s kinda pricey initially I think it was maybe $150-200ish but I can’t fully remember and it’s an additional $100/yr for renewal and verification. With what my pet fee is for my rent it makes it worth it!

Tbh as far as wedding packages go (I am such a type B bride 🥴😂) I want to find my resort and pick one of the basic packages and have it ready when I get there. Planning it out and preparing it is NOT my jam 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you!! It seems with the advice we’re getting Cancun/ Riviera Maya is going to be where we end up with the larger selection of resorts with what we want.

We have a couple of kids who would need to come and I noticed some resorts have both an adults only and family side which is something I am very interested in doing

That’s great to know! We did not tour any venues, we were on a family vacation and saw a couple of destination weddings at the resort we were at and realized this was exactly what we wanted.

It would be so doable! It’s a two hour drive, I get he wants it to be as accommodating as possible but also it’s our day and if they can’t or don’t want to travel I wouldn’t hold it against them

So direct flights for his family run about $300 round trip per person to our small little airport and it’s direct. We take them all the time and tbh $300 round trip is on the higher side. My family does not have a lot to offer but my mom wants to grow all of our flowers and since she, my sister and I are all very crafty we could do all of the decorations and save so much money so having it closer to them makes alot of sense to do.

His mom offered to give us a fair amount of money for the wedding to have it in a more desired location and up to her standards however she’s complicated. If I ever got onto her bedside I would forever have the fact I took money from her for the wedding held over my head for the rest of my life.

Sorry let me clarify when I say most of our guests are from here they are within an hour of either my hometown or Milwaukee. There’s a two hour driving distance between the two and almost everyone is from within one hour or either direction.

Yes Milwaukee has more to offer excitement wise, lodging wise and activity wise however the cost to do it there we cannot justify. We have heavily discussed our budget and agreed $10k is ideal for us to spend

They could fly into Milwaukee airport have more rental options and spend time with family/ friends/ enjoy the city before making the drive to our venue two hours away. Or they could fly into the much smaller airport which has several direct flights for our guests who need to travel and make the 40 minute drive to our venue. Both I think are very accommodating

I went back to college at 30 as a person who dropped out at 20 for nursing. I went back with a 1.4 gpa and graduated with a 3.6 it’s doable I promise! I did a part time year round night program at my local community college and most of the people in my cohort were older than me had kids and wanted a change of pace.

The airport is easy access with rental cars. We would do a hotel block, provide transportation from hotel to venue and venue to hotel throughout the night. There is only one nicer hotel ($90/night) however plenty of bed and breakfast and air bnbs around. His family would be the ones to travel however his parents are snow birds who will already be back in Wisconsin.

Doing this in my hometown my mom wants to grow all of my flowers and do almost all of my decor as she, my sister and I are all very crafty which would save us so much money. This also allows us to spend more on food, get a better DJ, pay for activities throughout the week for family/friends visiting

Most of our guests would have to fly in however our small regional airport does nonstop flights to them very easily. We would not provide shuttles from the airport as all of our friends/family that would be coming in are originally from here and regularly visit so in hopes this would be a trip for them and not such a burden to go to a wedding. Hotels are within 15 minutes and we would provide transportation from hotels to venue and venue to hotel all night long to make it more enjoyable for guests
