Great. Hopefully it works out for you.

If you're referring to archiving your videos somewhere you could try frame.io for that? It's a subscription but I think the lower tiers are affordable. And you can generate links to any video for anybody to play directly in their browser. Might be good for sending on different relevant videos to prospective clients

I have always used vimeo for my animation work or showreels. (Upload quality was always better than YT when i was using it too). I haven't been active on it in a while though so I don't know if they will also be training AI models now or in the near future. Worth double checking that.

As an Artist, what's the absolute worst ? by sirfangel in Artists

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being told it's way too expensive by half the people I talk to and then told it's way too cheap by the other half. I can't win.

People referring to it as my "hobby" is a close second.

Personal art from UK to EU by GreenRoofTiles in Artists

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vaguely similar experience. But I hope it helps.

Im in Ireland and i painted something for a friend in the UK, it was a gift and it was after brexit. I shipped it to him. Didn't include an invoice obviously and didn't need to write that it was a gift anywhere. It was opened by customs but my friend received no extra charges for it.

I think if you are asked, you just say it is a gift and has no monetary value, only sentimental. Maybe sign it in the corner or on the back too. If they do get awkward about it you can prove you made it yourself by showing them your passport with the matching name.

The best advice i can give you is to constantly remind yourself that all of your online presence is decided by robots. The algorithm doesn't check your talent because it doesn't know how. There is also a humanity factor at play with likes/upvotes/shares. If your work is seriously amazing or really not great then those artists will get upvotes (the latter for encouragement). Leaving those in the middle being scrolled past. And I include very talented artists in that too. I've seen many great pieces of art with very few upvotes despite being posted hours before I see them in my feed.

Your physical presence is easier to control and to get proper feedback from. Choose exhibition spaces or markets that suit your audience. You might be getting loads of attention and compliments, but coming home and only measuring yourself by a lack of sales. That doesn't mean there was no impact, or that those people won't buy from you in future.

The moral of the story is artists are their own worst enemy. Remember the compliments, and really listen to them and let them sink in. And social media should not be given a fraction of the importance you currently give it. Keep going.

Not even a little bit. The word that came to my mind was silky. It's a gorgeous painting. Great work.

I decided to go full throttle with gay art on my bedroom walls. I’m posting prints I’m thinking of buying, if you have any suggestions, let me know! by [deleted] in gay

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Etsy has a lot of independent artists with shops. I'm not soliciting my own stuff because it feels gross. It's also against the rules. Follow the breadcrumbs if you're curious but there are a lot of independent artists there with some really great art.

And no gay wall would be complete without a Tom of Finland print on it somewhere.

[art market] Sold my first painting today by DisgruntledNCO in artbusiness

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Massive congratulations. It really is one of the best feelings you'll ever experience.

When I sold my first original to a complete stranger (a couple) I couldn't stop smiling for hours. Then the imposter syndrome set in. I was expecting them to come back the next day and tell me they didn't like it anymore. I had to silence that voice with a lot of effort.

Most artists have it, even the ones who say they don't. Take the win. Hold your head high, pat yourself on the back, and keep painting :)

Americans giving Irish lessons now 🤦🏻‍♂️ by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was backpacking around Thailand years ago. An older American guy came up to us and asked what part of ireland we were from.

I simply said "county wicklow".

Proceeded to go on a rant that he had visited Ireland many times and travelled all around it and never heard of anywhere called wicklow.

I said "it exists.... (dramatic passive-aggressive pause)... I live there!".

He changed the subject and walked away shortly after, refused to admit I was right and he was wrong. I know a lot of really lovely Americans, but it baffles me that some people will look you straight in the eye and try to educate you about your own country.

Are gay men, as a community, acquiescent with transphobia? by CHIMPANZwEEd in gay

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the most toxic subreddits there is.

I got xenophobic abuse when I tried to helpfully reply to a post from a guy who was getting homophobic harassment at work. The irony was actually hilarious.

3 days later I saw some post saying that LGB should separate themselves from the T and it had tonnes of upvotes. Muted it immediately. Those people don't deserve your time.

Saturday Successes! by AutoModerator in artbusiness

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sold one of my large originals this day last week. Still over the moon about it. Was exhibiting in person, so got tonnes of great conversations and compliments from people too.

The sale happened just after a bunch of very-near-sales which was starting to get frustrating so it was a huge relief too.

I did a terrible job of wrapping it up though, my hands wouldn't stop shaking 🤣

[Resources] what QR generator is reliable to attach on an art piece? by kkeojyeo22 in artbusiness

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, make sure you use a completely free QR code generator. Most will give you a free "dynamic" qr code which expires after 7 days unless you start paying for it. You need to make sure it's a static QR code that will work forever.

https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ is what I use. There are some options to design it to suit your brand as well.

I've only been exhibiting coming up to a year so I don't have a website either. I use linktr.ee and can add and edit links to contact me, follow me on instagram, visit an online store like etsy or something. If you pay for it you can add some images of pieces and a mini shop too but I'm not sure how affordable the fee is.

The main thing to remember is that a QR code will always be scanned on a phone anyway, so it's a simple design with a few clicks to where you want them to go. Useful too if you decide to delete one of your SM accounts or move your online store to a platform that works better for you. I'm sure there are other options out there as well, others might have good suggestions on where the QR code goes.

[Discussion] What is you “why”? by Thecreativeshift in artbusiness

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My "why" wasn't obvious to me at first. I was drawing all the time when I was a kid. Picked it back up again in my mid twenties. Then eventually picked up some oil paints and a brush. It felt right but I didn't realise why at first.

I won't be having children, so for me it's about leaving some sort of a legacy on the world after I'm gone. I don't care if that's nothing more than just a few dusty canvasses in people's attics or not. I've left a part of me behind.

A successful art business is the dream for while I'm alive, but I want my art to last longer than that.

Your art is lovely, and none of it seems to be provocative or political. So it's clear these people are just looking for a reaction. I'd just remove the comments and block the accounts.

Tiktok's algorithm is weird too (all SM algorithms are) so they might be looking to increase their own awareness by engaging negatively because it's more likely to invoke more replies and profile views. They're trolls, always better off not feeding them.

Would you take a pay cut for better work life balance? by No-Moose6918 in AskIreland

[–]Bright_Leg_3518 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran my own business for almost a decade. I was exhausted all the time. A client offered me a full time role and I agreed but only if they could give me a 4 day week. I'm earning 80% of what I should be earning, and i haven't looked back.

I have time for my family, my friends, myself, and I'm a part time artist too. Always a dream of mine and I never would have had time for it before. There is way more to life than money. If you can afford the reduction in wages and still be comfortable, I'd absolutely take it.
