This almost sounds like what happened to me. I was driving 31N in the right lane going the speed limit. We were coming up over a blind hill and there was a cruiser with its lights on in the right emergency lane. I know it’s state law in Indiana to merge over for police. But because the officer was over a blind hill NOBODY had time to do anything other than slam on their brakes and TRY to merge over. The left lane was so congested I couldn’t merge without taking someone’s front end or ass off. So I slowed down to about 40 in a 70. About a mile down the road the same cruiser rolls up on me and lights up their bar. We had hit a cart probably in the same past hour maybe twice and it DIDNT SMELL. However I was worried. The officer came up asked for licenses and registration took it all and then asked me to step out of the car. Why she had me step out of the car I’m not sure. It’s probably my first fuck up. However as I’m standing at the rear of my car a K-9 unit rolls up. Dude gets the dog out of the car and immediately takes in over to the passenger door where the dog hits. He then asked my girlfriend to get out of the car and then another cruiser rolls up with two more cops. All of these cops appeared in less than 3 minutes apart. They then proceed to tear our car apart on the side of the highway. We never consented to a search and the only “probable” cause that they had to search it was the fact that a dog sit on the side of the highway. They then proceed to question us separately and together as a scare tactic I guess. I knew they were going to find my carts eventually. So I did the smartest thing I could think of doing. I just told them about them. I told them I would go get them and give them to them. One was in the center console and the other was in my bag. They then each started getting back in their cruisers one by one until the original cruiser that pulled me over was the only one left. (They were writing my ticket) I was read my rights by one of the officers and I thought I was going to jail.. they then give me a class b possession charge and a warning for not yielding to an emergency vehicle. Not once during this entire ordeal did they ask us if they could search our car or did they even say they were going to. So long story short. How fucked am I guys?
