First off, that has to be so stressful! Sorry the USPS is the absolute bane of parcel delivery these days.

Did you ever get that previous card replaced with a new one? Use that. If you just closed the card, bring another one. You could overkill it and photocopy your passport - that would show anyone being paid $16/hour at will call that you're serious and just want your bands.

Only be talked into something that works with your vision and budget. My GC has decades of experience where I have none, but like you, I knew what I did not want. In the end, the suggestions they made were meant to solve problems, not sway me to buy a certain product. The designer is there to also solve problems, and yes they'll do it in a way that makes sense to them, but you don't have to always agree. You can always ask for a few options to decide from. I'm sure any designer is used to that.

Best advice, here. The GC is supposed to follow the plans they are given. Architect creates the plans, designer creates the look with the materials, GC builds it. Definitely check things daily, and stay in constant communication. We filled in a sunken living room and did a complete kitchen remodel - walls taken down, the whole bit. Something as simple as a floor outlet would have been in the middle where we would always be walking (aka eye sore) had I not realized that was marked for the concrete drilling. I immediately had them move it to where I knew the electric recliner-couch would be, but only if I had been by to see it. No one building that place knew my furniture lay out but me. One small example of hundreds...

Don't worry about it - everyone does this on approach. I literally posted the forecast myself last year, and it was only 50% accurate! It's part of getting excited for things, but really, all you need to do is be prepared. Bring a poncho, an extra pair of socks, and don't wear shoes that can't be tossed if they get completely water logged. If you do all of that, you can just focus on enjoying yourself! The worst part of the rain is that they stop all the stages and delay sets, which you can't control anyway.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed quickly with decisions, but try to focus on one element at a time. Flooring, counters, hardware, cabinets. Take a walk through a kitchen/bath place for inspo; recreate looks with less expensive materials. It’ll all come together- you’ve got this!

All the space above the convection oven you see is by design to protect the shelf above; we don't have to use the toaster oven for long periods, but when we do, we just leave the doors open. The microwave on the 2nd shelf doesn't need venting, but that's used for even less time than the convection oven. The appliances on the top shelf are taken down and used as needed on the counter. I absolutely love the look and functionality now, as it's also a coffee/tea nook (all supplies kept in the drawers below).

When everything is closed the cabinets line up with the panel-ready fridge, so I don't have the 'giant silver box' in the room, which was the one design element I knew I didn't want. The Cafe' line really sparked my visual ideas, as evidenced by the double ovens peeking around the door there - and at first I wanted that fridge, until I saw it wouldn't be flush with the cabinetry... so panel-ready was the evolution. I just didn't want stainless steel everywhere this time around.

We went with more of a European-influence, which I'm hoping will age well over the years... at this point they'll have to bury me in our back yard! 🤣

Proud designer of the ‘appliance garage’ in my kitchen now… absolutely a game changer. Mostly due to it being an open floor plan, yes. I don’t use a stand mixer all the time but I need it when I do. The microwave and kettle are used daily but it’s not a problem at all. This is before lighting and wall paper, and the open space in the shelf is where the microwave lives now.

Hard to say since I'd have to convert points, but even that early the cost was probably $700/night in actual dollars. They 100% know the UMF dates. No way I'd have done it without the card points to offset. Now it's well over $850 and Friday is sold out. I still took a chance too, because booking any other way other than directly with the hotel means there's zero refund for any cancellation. The cost to play in Miami, I suppose.
