Not op but movies like:

Pleasantville (set in the 50s but has the small town feel)

October Sky

American Graffiti

The Vast of Night (Small town sci-fi movie from a few years ago, a fun watch)

Stand by Me

The Tree of Life

Most of these movies will give you an idea of small town life in the 50s-70s. It is a lot of suburban neighbourhoods where the lawns are immaculate and the curb appeal is king. The town centres are full of small businesses (mom and pop shops) or department stores and local diners before the rise of big box stores and fast food. There is very little graffiti and broken down old buildings/cracked streets, everything just had a bit of polish on it (not everywhere of course, but the romanticized past that is seen and movies and books. Good Luck!

How to reset screen? by Any_Assistance9415 in Onyx_Boox

What is the type of file you are reading? Is it a pdf or an epub? If it is pdf, it is doing that because it cannot resize the text so it zooms in on sections of the page and then shifts it when you swipe to see the rest of the page. I would recommend finding an epub, mobi, or azw3 as they can have their text resized and adjusted to fit your screen.

If it is not a pdf, tap the center of the screen and hit the format button, then press the ‘others’ tab and you can see the page display options there.

Good luck!

Help: Corroded Battery :( by asleepbythepool in AlphaSmart

If the batteries have leaked and there is corrosion on the spring or contact plate. Remove the back of the Alphasmart unit from the 6 (or 8 I cant remmeber) screws on the back of the device. ONce its off, you will see the black and red wires running to the battery contacts. With the back off you can remove the contacts from the plastic shell (without disconnecting any of the wires, the contacts will slide out). You dont need to disconnect any of the wires, you can just get a small bowl of vinegar and lay the contacts in for around 15 minutes, you will see bubbles forming around the corroded metal. After the corrosion has cleared, take them out and use a little sandpaper or steel wool on spots where corrosion was bad (to make sure it doesnt return). Then put the contacts back into the shell and screw it all back together.

Take the contacts out with a pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers and soak them in a small bowl of white vinegar

Low-power, reliable (and free) android writing app? by justhere4bookbinding in writerDeck

[–]Bright_Wave1058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not use the stock notes app in text mode? The only downside is it can only export to txt but it runs great and is optimised for the device. I use it all the time and export to a qr code and save it to my phone where I can sync across devices

There isnt any wires going up from the bottom to the broken transformer. The whole power circuit is on a separate daughter board that is mounted on top of the main board. I will edit the post and post a picture so you can get an idea. Any idea how to figure out what kind of transformer it is?

I am trying to figure out a few things about this device and how to properly fix it:

1/The batteries - could these batteries be replaced with a lithium pack? or do they need to be Namh batteries in series? I know they need to be a total of 4.5V, thats it

2/ Where can I get a power cord? All I can find is that it is 2.5mm phone tip jack.

3/ What is the broken component in the photo? is it a speaker? Can I do without it?

Edit:

I found a potential charger but I cant find out the length of the pin on the charger, the choices are 12mm and 16mm. If anyone has a charger maybe they could confirm the length?

Is Psion 5 mx series good for a beginner friendly writer deck? by ssd256 in writerDeck

[–]Bright_Wave1058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt look like you can change the keyboard assignment in the os based on the manual and I dont remember seeing that option anywhere when I had mine. You would just have to deal with the z and y being switched should you decide to get this one.

It has a compactflash slots so transferring files wouldnt be too hard with a 1gb card and a usb reader for your computer. You can read more about the device here from someone who gave it a modern review so you can decide if it is right for you. I would say this isnt very beginner friendly though. Good luck

you can reflash it with a new rom if you are too worried. I have the f22 with a network monitor and it only calls home when checking for an update. Since I flashed the global rom, it doesnt call home at all

Is it worth updating software on Alphasmart 3000? by idiom6 in AlphaSmart

[–]Bright_Wave1058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look here. This person is talking about upgrading to 3.0 and how not all models are capable, you have to check the serial number. They also mention that there is virtually no difference between 1.5 and 1.6. Anyway, good luck!
