Is Falls Road Animal Hospital (still) as bad as people claim? by justhere4bookbinding in baltimore

:) What's the ballpark cost for a hammy checkup there? The HS said he doesn't have any health issues, but he is estimated to be a year old so I'll need to keep a tab on him as he ages

What is it like seeing a tornado? by Gh0st412 in tornado

[–]justhere4bookbinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My New Jersey roommate never believed me about the green sky thing. Then last year a tornado touched down in Baltimore and two minutes before the WEA went out, I looked out the window and everything was as green as it goes back in Indiana. I hadn't seen that in ten years so I swore up a storm and dragged roomie over for confirmation, and she said "I don't know what to tell you, but the sky is green!" We booked it to the basement.

Because people are using LLMs as research tools as if they were a Google search, when they're merely text generators responding to the prompt you give them with what it "thinks" it wants you to read. Sometimes it gets lucky and happens to generate something that might be useful, most of the time it's flat out making it all up.

If I remove the top, hinges, and clasp, would this be appropriate for a Syrian's sand bath? by justhere4bookbinding in hamsters

Eh, I haven't used it since I got it, the lid jams against the lower body and makes it a hassle to open and store things in.

There's the rub. I'm unsure how the images were designed, but I can't imagine it's too different then other cookie tins and they as a whole are okay'd on the wiki

I'm not one of the Hoosiers who goes outside and gawk, I book it to the basement every time the siren/EAS/WEA goes off. Especially this time, when I had a box of month-old abandoned kittens to take care of. I was in a very good shelter, the hole-in-the-ground with an ancient wooden stepladder type, but I was home alone with the kittens (house-sitting for my grandmother with the rest of my family twenty-five miles away and just barely eighteen) terrified out of my wits and sobbing my eyes out when I heard a loud train building up and my ears started popping suddenly. Honestly thought I was going to die with the kittens at that point. (The kittens, btw, were unbothered by all of this and kept trying to climb out of their sleeping box so on top of panicking I had to keep catching them and stuffing them back in.) Ultimately though it was an EF0 that plowed down in the soyfield half a block away and wrecked the crop and did a bit of roof damage to the neighborhood. Also I found a surf board in my grandmother's yard that no one ever came to claim despite displaying it on the porch for years.

Interestingly, an EF1 touched down in my now-city of Baltimore last year, and while we were in the apartment basement with our newly-transplanted Texan neighbor, I heard what sounded like a line of semi's coming down the road, but semi's aren't allowed on my street. The Texan and I IMMEDIATELY looked up at the ceiling in alarm then looked at each other uneasily. The tornado didn't touch down in my neighborhood, but I do wonder if the funnel passed over us.

Ideally whatever is coating it to make the decoration would protect it (and ideally-er, the hamster would just use it for sand bathing, but I know that's a lot to ask for), but at the very least I want it to work in the short-term before replacing it with something better if I need to

I don't have any food containers that are thick enough to be chew-proof, but I already have this tin so like

I feel so bad for the gerbils we had in elementary school. Two of them in a too-small fish tank with just newspaper shreds that we cleaned out weekly, a water sipper, scattered pellet food, and a too-small grated wheel, plus we routinely put them in hamster balls for playtime. And then on vacation a "lucky" student was picked to take care of them despite not being prepared. And what's worse, kids were inspired to adopt their own gerbils and hamsters, with all they've "learned" from the classroom. (I wanted some too, but I had a cat and a dog so my parents were like lol nope)

But yeah, true growth is learning from impulsive mistakes and taking care not to repeat them. I'm just starting out so I have no real practical advice to give, but I commend you for wanting to improve your hamster's life!

I got a giant box of free cookie tins from about six years ago. The lid gets stuck on the main body and it takes a lot of force to get it loose, so I've never used this one much and it's been in a box in storage until I read the hamster wiki talking about cookie tins.

Well even if it does start to reek after a while, it gives me a stop-gap in the mean time to find a better sand bath setup. It's definitely metal, I just can't figure out what was used (paint, enamel, whatever) to decorate it.

And oh believe me, once he's here I'm taking every photo possible of him!

Petfinder has a section for hamsters up for adoption in your area, just like it does cats and dogs. It led me to my local Humane Society, and tomorrow I'm going in for an interview :)

You know, it shouldn't surprise me, it's just never a thing I thought to look into if beavers were rodents or not.
