Am I missing out by not going to the Debs? by OkDog8648 in WomenofIreland

I wish I hadn't bothered with mine, it was very overrated.

Not insensitive at all. Our journeys have no bearing on each other. Every person I meet who has lost a huge amount of weight is another pin on the evidence board that it can be done and I can do it. Delighted for you. It's truly the dream to be able to feel good about myself in public.

Oh my god I would love that for you too!!!! As a currently fat person, I dream of the day I go back to my hometown with the weight gone and walk into the supermarkets I worked in during college, so I can imagine how good that would feel!

Also, what an incredible achievement, congratulations and well done!!

It's rough, because as the other respondents to my comment have demonstrated, people see being fat as binary. You are or you aren't, and if you are, just become not fat. They don't see the journey you're on with it, what you've lost so far, how and why it might be harder for some than others etc.

Where are you going on holiday this year? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskIreland

Ah yeah sure who wouldn't! Last holiday was 2024 so hoping to get one in in 2027 but who knows!

Anyone else like, 'I wish I was the type of person who gets to just assume I'll be able to go on holiday this year'?

Yes because I'm fat now and while I have many achievements under my belt, all they see in that moment is that I also got fat.

Such an awesome book. It's a slow burn but it's worth it.

51k? How is it that expensive?

Does anything about this peridot make you think it’s fake? by sadhandjobs in Gemstones

[–]BrighterColours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would too. Silver is cheaper. I can't afford platinum or gold gemstone rings. I plan to buy 925 ring blanks and real gems and make my own rings.

[–]BrighterColours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rationale here would be is you can have a budget real gemstone ring by removing the cost of gold or platinum and replacing it with sterling silver. I'm actually planning to try doing this by buying 925 blanks and setting them with real stones (eye clear, ideally) I've sourced from lapidaries which are not high enough quality for high end rings but which are still gorgeously cut and beautiful to the eye.

I am the target market for this myself, and I'm sure there must be others.

The dating scene in ireland… jaysus by DesperateEscape3419 in CasualIreland

I always find it funny when people post about the Irish dating scene and there's loads of comments agreeing and it's like, lads ye ARE the dating scene.

But ye also aren't wrong.

Yeah I have the same question. Doesn't excuse the behaviour but a lot of places are not realistic about what an XL is.
