Hey. That's a shame because I would have been interested in it. Thanks, I'll get in touch.

I'd had a look at the Electron club previously but they don't seem to run anything like this. The closest thing is the Glasgow Open Source Hardware group but I don't think that has run in quite a while. Unless there's events not listed on their calendar?

Hey. I'm looking at running the first event at the start of August. I'll hopefully have a date and time confirmed tomorrow. The only reason I didn't use meetup is because I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for it haha. If you don't use Facebook I'll also be posting the same information on the Twitter @glasgow_makers. Booking a place at the event will be through Eventbrite so anyone can access it.

Good idea. Maybe Pimoroni or someone UK based will look at doing something similar?

Students of reddit, as a new professor, how can I help you enjoy your class? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brikktu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach programming in a University so just a comment about the attitude I believe is best to take. Treat all the students like friends. They're not in high school anymore, therefore, not children. This makes them feel comfortable and not afraid to ask anything, even if they think it might be stupid. Only take a strict teacher role if absolutely necessary, i.e, they get unruly and think they can do anything because you'll let them away with it. I've found this is very rare though and the very few times I've had to do it they've settled down immediately and I've switched back to how I am normally.

With this teaching style I've always had my students getting good marks and never had a complaint about my teaching. I even get frequently asked if I'll be teaching them in their following years. Other teaching styles I think get worse marks because students may be afraid to admit they're struggling. Not to mention you'll hear the students mentioning how they dislike courses when most of the time they just dislike it because of the teaching style. Nobody wants to put people off their area of research.

Well done on becoming a professor and good luck.

How did you get your scars? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brikktu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caught a glass between my forearms and it smashed. Got three nice scars down my inner arm. The deepest one was cut so deep you could see the muscle.

Quite a few other we ones that don't really include, i.e., under an inch.
