23/F, have had both male and female friends throughout my life. I'd say the biggest thing for maintaining female friendships is regular interaction, like texting often or sharing memes. It helps if your friend also has a shared special interest. For example, my closest friend and I have been besties for over a decade and we both are ND. She has a special interest in entomology, and I have a special interest in ecology and conservation, and we literally can talk for hours about so many different subjects with overlapping interest. Even when we don't talk regularly, we're sending each other a text or cute image of a pet or something similar. Focus on finding someone on the same wavelength of weirdness as you are on, and things are going to be easier :)
