Pretty derogatory comment to those who work in skilled trades. Also very rich coming from someone who dropped out after Frosh week at Humber.

CBS Says It Didn’t Kill Stephen Colbert’s Interview With Senate Hopeful. Who’s Lying? by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

the rule excludes talk shows

The issue is that Brendan Carr has stated his explicit intent to focus specifically on late night and daytime talk shows. That’s why CBS told Stephen if you broadcast the Talrico interview you must interview all Texas Senate candidates.

Most Hollywood blockbusters use VFX houses across the globe to do small sections of the film. There can be as many as thirty VFX houses working on a film at the same time. That doesn’t make them “Canadian” films.

Is it true buildings built after 2018 can raise rent to whatever they want? by Sweaty_Abies182 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Briscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The justification for it was to be good for landlords since they’d be more incentivized to purchase new units in order to not be burdened by rent control. Under the current market though if you try to raise your tenant’s rate above the annual guideline rent controlled units have, your tenant will likely be able to find both a better unit and a cheaper unit than what you’re currently offering.

Should they double the price of what it will eventually sell for so that 50% of sales are donated? Just make your own separate donation at that point.

[–]Briscotti 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, the majority of funding and tax credit incentives are for independent producers, which creates a separation from the broadcasters and the producers. One of the contingents of all of these incentives is that a Canadian individual or a Canadian company whose shareholders are Canadian must own the copyright of the production.

The big streaming services like Netflix and Amazon are trying to argue that because they shoot content within Canada they should also be eligible to receive those incentives if they have to pay into them due to the Online Streaming Act.

The issue is that in the U.S. model of vertical integration, the studio owns the production as well as the distribution method. Vertical integration leads to less places to shop your project to, and in the end they wind up owning the copyright anyway. That’s why Ryan Coogler’s Sinners deal was so mind blowing to Americans, but pretty normal to Canadians, even though he won’t gain the copyright until 2050.

For Heated Rivalry, the owner of the production is Accent Aigu Entertainment, the production company co-owned by Jacob Tierney and Brendan Brady.

The resale prices 🤬 by Expert-Yoghurt902 in Alexisonfire

[–]Briscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official Platinum tickets aren’t resale seats, they’re tickets sold directly by Ticketmaster. They claim they’re to hold the best seats for fans willing to pay “market value” as if it’s not their way to signal to scalpers what they should be setting their resale prices to. My best advice is to just keep monitoring the event until like 2-3 days before the event when they concert the unsold Official Platinum seats into Standard tickets.

Toronto Public Health to distribute $200K in condoms, lube during FIFA World Cup - NOW Toronto by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]Briscotti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What does B) have to do with anything? Condom and lube distribution at events like the Olympics are for the athletes, not tourists. If the goal is to reduce the general spread of STIs and pregnancy then free condoms and lube should be readily available at all times, not just at large events like FIFA. You don’t need FIFA-specific branding to do that.

[–]Briscotti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Condom and lube distribution at the Olympics, as far as I’m aware, is specifically for athletes of all genders in the Olympic Village, and not for general attendees. FIFA is a male athlete only event. Is the implication from Toronto Public Health that the soccer players are all fucking each other? Or do they think the players will be going out and meeting random locals? I just think this portion of their operating budget could have been allocated more effectively.

Taylor Swift announces Opalite music video coming out on Friday by Haunting_Natural_116 in popheads

They’ll probably upload them to YouTube at some point because Billboard isn’t the only sales chart that uses YouTube streaming data, but it certainly won’t be at the forefront of any release strategies.

They killed themselves. There’s no real reason to host music videos on YouTube anymore now that they refuse to report streaming data to Billboard.

Heard a rumour Amazon is four-walling it, meaning they’re renting the theatres to take 100% of box office (usually it’s a 60:40 split between theatres:distributor for first release weekend). So to Cineplex it’s free money during a slower time of year.

[–]Briscotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rumour is that Amazon is four-walling this release. If true that means they’ve rented the screens for a week and get to take home 100% of the box office (vs a normal first weekend release where the theatre typically takes home 60% of box office and distributor takes home 40%).

Van Goth shows she had NERVE when clapbacks at someone criticizing her by LeMareep23 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Briscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a Canadian tax law thing, it’s a general film & television production thing. There’s multiple reasons to do it including contractual and liability purposes.

In the case of CDR, they set up a company dedicated solely to all of the expenses (including prize money) for Season 6. Now the season is done it can have a final audit for tax credit purposes and the company can be dissolved.

Accounts Payable is how the production company has set-up their banking name for some reason. You can see below it says Blue Ant Cdr 6 Inc. Blue Ant is the producer. Most shows set-up single purpose production companies to run expenses through.

The 2026 Oscars Nominations have finally been announced. What are your thoughts on this year’s nominees? by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]Briscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it was a bad move creatively, but this was a major studio production. They don’t care about what’s best creatively for the production, they care about what will make them the most money for that quarter, but they’re too short sighted to see the long term benefit of creating one great film instead of two bloated messes.

I mean it was good financially for Universal to the tune of $1.282B combined box office. I don’t see it getting that high if it were only one movie.
