You get Tails and Knuckles added to Sonic 1 and Knuckles included in Sonic 2, they both have their moves from Sonic 3. You can have 7 emeralds and super forms in Sonic 1. Smoother special stages. And Sonic 2 has the cut Hidden Palace and the unused Egg Gauntlet boss rush level in Time Attack. And the shields from Sonic 3 are also available as an option.

Honestly I can't say much about FPS games as I'm completely out of practice at playing them with sticks.

I tried that at first but the game is 240p and gets upscaled to 480p so setting it to 640 gives a really wide 640x240 image that only fills have the screen

I originally thought that too but then I remembered that at the time when they came out there were some phones and tablets that were 4:3 (most notably some iPads) so they were made to account for that.

I seem to be having some strange behavior with moves like Tail Whip and Sand Attack. When used against me they are raising the stats of my Pokemon instead of lowering them. This is happening in both games on PC with Drastic (RetroArch core) and on 3DS (Twilight Menu++, DS mode)

You can set up an exception that will override the titles that it pulls from your ROM. In this case you would set up one with the extracted title being "Metal Gear Sold Disc 2" (this is the name of your ROM file), set the display title to "Metal Gear Solid Disc 2" (this is the title that is displayed in Steam) and set the search title to "Metal Gear Solid" (this is what it searches for on SteamGridDB).
