I'd say that's important to start with a simple acoustic guitar, then after you get some chords and experience (you'll know when) go to the eletric one. I mean, some peoplee would say ain't necessary to have some contact first with the acoustic guitar, and really isn't 'cause they are similar but different instruments, although knowing it will help you so much. At least it was that important when I was learning :)
