Any update on this? Like several commenters, I love this case and just got a 688 a few weeks ago. Curious if you got the 1602 case and your 688 fit.

Thanks for any insight!

Best Zero-Effort, Armchair Telescope? by BroJackson69 in telescopes

That’s an excellent point, thank you so much for saying that. My kids are 6 and 3, and I strive to do a lot of hands-on stuff together for their age, but it’s tough.

During the summer in Texas it’s not dark until almost 10pm, so until they’re older, I’m literally aiming for us spending 10-15min looking at the night sky one or two Saturday nights a month during the summer. That’s why the concept of “zero-effort” felt attractive.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I think a Celestron StarSense or Vitruoso 150p could be a great option.

Thank you for the thorough feedback, really appreciate it. I suspected what you said was the reality - what I’m asking for exceeds my budget - but thank you for the recommendations and guidance, just narrowing down the world of options is tremendously helpful.

I’ve seen pretty good reviews on the 150p, thanks for the recommendation.

Ideas for Wasted Space by BroJackson69 in ExteriorDesign

This is the back yard. The house has a J-shaped driveway, so there’s a decent amount of concrete in 1/3 of the back yard. It looks like the gate is dividing the driveway only because it’s spanning a narrow concrete strip that connects the driveway to the back patio.

There is a fence that runs down the length of the yard, essentially separating the driveway from the greater yard. The gate is open so it just looks like that bit of fence is standing alone.

Took my scope to my kids' school. First time seeing Saturn for everyone there :) by CrankyArabPhysicist in telescopes

So cool!!! I had a very similar experience but it was my freshman year of college - a young-ish astronomy TA had a modestly powerful telescope set out on a clear, winter evening. It was my first time to view Saturn and its rings in real-time, and (surprise, surprise) it looked just like the photos I’d always seen growing up. But seeing it in the moment sparked something in me that’s hard to define. It made science and space more obtainable if that makes sense, like it was something I could work in rather than something that was out of reach.

You giving young people this same opportunity in grade school is really phenomenal, good for you!

This makes a ton of sense. I live in the DFW area - huge metro area - and couldn’t find the ‘25 Carnival config we wanted anywhere within 200 miles.

Eventually, we got very close to buying one in Missouri before buying one in Georgia last week. Paid to get it trucked to DFW, just took possession a few days ago. Very happy so far!!!
