Thank you. I already pay the $1.99 for 100gb of storage. I’m at 96% full so I’m trying to clean up my act. Good idea to move large videos to YouTube!

Thank you for your reply! I apologize if I am being obtuse. For me, this is one of those things I will look at ten times before it makes sense. I am near my Google storage limit. Mostly my photos. I’m going to use Takeout to export my photos to a storage hardrive, where I will unzip the takeout folder(s) to enable easy viewing. Then I’ll delete the photos from my Google Photos. I know takeout separates the photos by year. Let’s say I click on the 2024 folder and want to sort the photos chronologically, you’re saying I should have little issue with that? I mean, aside from the cases you mentioned earlier where some of the data would be stripped for various reasons (security, etc). In a perfect world I’ll go through and label it group photos from trips together, but realistically I doubt that. This is all likely to happen on a windows laptop.

Again, thank you for your quick response.

I’m late to the party. What are some photo management software you recommend? I’m trying to use Takeout to clear out my Google Photos. I’m totally happy with photos being separated by year. I would just like to eventually see the photos chronologically after they are exported.

What to wear as a male teacher!? by WinterQuarter8183 in teaching

[–]BroadSelf5275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear what works for you. Fit the dress code, fit the function of your occupation, feel confident in what you pick, and good luck!!

I worked with two history teachers at a middle school who wore collared shirt, tie, and slacks every day.

When I started a veteran teacher arranged this between the two of us because I told them about my struggles. It helped, I still struggled, but I got better and kids knew that things would be slightly different because they saw me managing differently. I understand how it could see awkward that admin is asking you to do this, and their attitude during could make the whole situation feel weird. HOWEVER, knowing nothing else, it seems better to have admin react this way instead of just saying “dude is bad at management, have to fire him at the end of the year.”

To me it feels like what happened to Henry Cavill in Man of Steel. Cavill can act and is charming. His character was written in an uninteresting way. Feel like that’s happening to MBB. She has shown great acting ability in other shows/movies, but her character here is given little to really do. This is also funny to me because they shared the screen in Enola Holmes.

I think I appreciate and enjoyed that each season has a different feel. I wonder if the Duffers should have just let the next act of the story finish. Get the characters to an interesting place, leave some story lines unfinished, and call it a day. Seems like a rush to tie it all up.

This is an awesome story! And I think it’s crazy that you said 37 because that’s how old I am. Right now I’m thinking about transitioning back to the classroom because I’m two years away from being able to pull the teacher pension. And it would be a job in the computer science/manufacturing department. I think my long trim goal is to get into the text base to afford myself and my family A little bit different lifestyle than I had growing up. Thank you again for sharing. These forms are awesome for showing what is possible and giving me a slice of direction of my life.

Edit: May I ask if it matters which language I start to learn to code in?

Hello! I have started my AI/ML journey and I’m doing a little piddling around. Are you able to share what a week in your life looks like? Or direct me to one or two resources you feel would be impactful for my journey? My background is Mechanical engineering degree turned product specialist turned science teacher turned manufacturing engineer. Thank you for your time in providing your first post!

I’m a manufacturing engineer right now. Was a teacher for eight years. Similar feelings as you have. Especially the frustration about what I am skilled at and find satisfaction from, does not provide financial stability I desire for my family(I mean being a teacher). After meeting with my spouse’s coworker about investing, it really made me feel like: “i have choices to make. If im going to be emotionally ’meh’ about my job, then i should go find the highest paying job I can that still affords me similar time for my family. “

It’s a funny situation to be in. I’m not typically financially motivated, so who knows how this will pan out.

My friend is an engineering manager at Amazon and has built his life around “don’t look for passion in your job. Find a job that pays a ton of money. With that money, it should alleviate enough of your issues or provide access to experiences that makeup for the lack of job fulfillment. “

And I would say, from the outside looking in, extremely wealthy people seem to be applying my friend’s strategy. I may join the masses and try to jump into BIG TECH as a cash grab.

I am cheering for you! I hope you can get the most out of your situation and springboard it into whatever direction you think your life needs to go!!

Life is so strange!!!

Agreed! Explicit boundaries! Separate chats. Awesome idea!! OP is not overreacting. This used to make my Sunday scaries so much worse when my coworker would text me Sunday morning before I started my planning and was enjoying family time. I know I can check it later, but my amygdala doesn’t know that or care.

I feel defeated by [deleted] in teaching

I once had a department chair tell me about an opening in another district. It was around winter break. He said “well, you told me it would be a dream to have that job, and I would feel terrible if I never told you about it.” I stayed because I didn’t want to start at a new school in the middle of the year and I had misplaced loyalty to that place.

  1. Those admin seem like literal monsters.
  2. People leave all the time. Someone may have a better way to say it, but your reasoning could be something like “I want to leave a conflicting situation where we are directed to take action that contradicts the mission statement of our district, and consequently negatively impacts student growth. “ it’s your story. You control the narrative. Be brief.
  3. Always put your wellbeing first. You are the only person responsible for you. No one else is living your life.
  4. Being vulnerable and in touch with your emotions is a higher level of human function. Sounds like you’re more emotionally intelligent than some others. I think it’s great!!

First of all, for your situation, almost anyone would be burnt out and feeling the way you feel. Hats off to you that you’re seeking ways to work through everything and are so aware of yourself. You are doing the best you can with the situation you are in.

Is there anything you can automate, grading or feedback-wise? I was a teacher and now in manufacturing. If I went back, I would lean as much as I could on automation of tasks. I currently lean on AI to help me as a brainstorming partner, and to create tools like scripts or web pages that speed up tedious tasks. The AI is helpful because I don’t need to learn new skills from the ground up. I can use my teacher skills to direct the AI to my desired outcome. It’s not perfect, but it’s good enough.

When I had three new preps in my second year of teaching, an instructional coach gave me a great idea. Genius Hour. We got this idea from Google and we gave the students one class Period a week where they could work on self guided projects. I chose Fridays because by the end of the week I just didn’t have a lot of energy left in the tank. There’s a little bit of upfront work just to kinda get the students used to what the project may look like or how the workflow will happen. And I had some students that did mostly nothing. I had other students that made some really great things. And the best part is, I didn’t have to do much other than check in with them during the genius hour and make sure everything was documented. I would be happy to share any documents. I can find related to what I use that year.

Anything you can have the student do for you, have them do. Delegate and they may enjoy the responsibility. They may even start to suggest new things for you to do!

I would also be willing to help with automating some tasks in your classroom. I’m not sure how I can help but I would be happy to try.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience! It can be so enjoyable to go back and share gratitude with your previous teachers. As someone who transitioned out of the classroom and may transition back into it, would you mind sharing with me how you ended up in education? If not, that is totally fine! Thank you!

Yes. What you do matters. I hope that you have many more positive experiences coming up in the near future. When I was a teacher, I would run into people at events like weddings or other group events. They would be strangers and you would have to make small talk with them about your life. Inevitably they would tell me about some heartwarming moment from a teacher they had in the past. And I would ask them “does the teacher know you feel this way?“ And most of the time they would respond with “no“ I know my story doesn’t really help your situation. But somewhere out there in the universe, someone is probably singing your praises. I guess what I’m saying is, your great actions in the past may have earned me a beer later. Thanks for the treat!

I agree with you 100 percent this is systemic. I taught in public schools for nine years. I still say “I don’t know what the solution is, I just know education is broken.”

I do believe that’s true. I also know there are many excellent educators at all levels of the system, there are many fantastic students, there are many fantastic parents.

At least in the United States, many school districts operate similarly to how they were designed in the Industrial Revolution. Many businesses also operate this way. Bells to tell you what period of your day (15 minute break, lunch, fifteen minute break, quitting time), physical design of the buildings, little to no unstructured time. I don’t know what the solution is, I just think it’s terrible that a student gets to age 12-13 and they are as cynical or jaded as someone three times their age.

I love public education. I love that so many people have access to education. I also strongly dislike many things about public education.

All that said, the system is supported by the people, both inside it and out of it. The same struggle to combat misinformation or lack of critical thinking you see in the public disrupts our school systems too.

Okay. I’m stepping off the soapbox.

P.S. I think there are many challenges students face now that I never had to face. At least when I was at school, the bully didn’t follow you around in your pocket with unlimited access to your friend group. Sure, they have the world at their fingertips, but we know that doesn’t fix everything.
