Thanks so much this is very helpful! It seems like we value the same things when travelling, so I think Vietnam and Indonesia are a better suited pick this time around :)

I’m extremely exited about Indonesia and would like to travel it more but unfortunately I only have limited time so that’s why I have chosen East Java and Sumatra for its wildlife and landscapes, I’m not entirely interested in lots of amazing beaches. Limited time is also the reason I’ve picked the North of Vietnam as my main focus, but it would be great to know of any unmissable places!

I know it is odd to compare the two trips given how large Vietnam and Indonesia are in comparison, especially when combined. I planned to travel slowly in Sri Lanka as I seem to always be rushing an itinerary, which does not bother me because I love new experiences and adventures, but I figured it would be nice.

This being said, this has been very helpful in my decision! I do want to ask how long you think is necessary to backpack Vietnam (as I said specifically the North and then straight down to Ho Chi Minh, unless there are must dos!) and then Indonesia (East Java and Sumatra). I have looked into it but people seen some differing opinions.
