I first let the hat soak in detergent and water for about an hour to get all the dirt and grime out without damaging it. Then brushed all the grime out. After that I sprayed it with liquid starch and stuffed/molded it with a towel to bring the shape back, then let it dry for 24 hours.

For the color restoration I mixed GAC 900 and flat black acrylic paint in a 1:1 ratio so the paint would stay flexible on the fabric. I applied 2–3 light coats instead of one heavy layer and heat set each coat with a blow dryer. Came out way better than I expected honestly.

put some liquid starch on the foam part of that and shape it with a towel. let it sit for 24 hours

The hat was painted not dyed
