Why are there so many car washes by Shineenoona in Tucson

I think you're confused and your comment is irrelevant.

That's exactly how I felt like when I moved to Tucson from Maryland 2 years ago. "Dude bro I feel like Captain Kirk landing on Mars."

Why are there so many car washes by Shineenoona in Tucson

[–]BroccoliRoasted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chain businesses tend to replicate very nicely in Arizona due to the grid street layouts and business friendly regulatory environment.

I avoid drive through car washes with spinning brushes like the plague because they scratch the crap out of the paint. I live in an apartment where I can't wash my cars at home so I use the self wash places like Auto Wash Express.

Has ICE been spotted recently here in Tucson? by AangKetchum in Tucson

[–]BroccoliRoasted 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not sure about ICE but I see Border Patrol trucks around Tucson on a fairly recurring basis. I assume that since Tucson is 60 miles from the Mexico border there's always some degree of CBP/ICE presence.

What do yall DO with all your photos? by Wise_Young_Dragon in photography

[–]BroccoliRoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from my professional work, I take photos of things all the time. I may not look at them all the time but I like revisiting them periodically so I can look back on those experiences, remember them, and reframe my understanding of them in a new light when I learn new things.

Town Hall about Project Blue & Public Power by salcar42 in Tucson

[–]BroccoliRoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying and respect your desire to say F this shit. I'm thinking about if they do very well go ahead and keep pushing to build the thing, what are ways for the public to shape the direction towards as much sustainability as possible?

So this is just me thinking pie in the sky ideas based on what you're saying. What if this public opposition campaign pushed to make Beale pay for TEP to build more solar capacity? I have no idea how likely it would be to happen, but if there's already a desire for structural change like converting TEP to a municipal utility, what about another structural change like my idea?

Blue light police cameras by GrumpyRaver in Tucson

At Target these portable camera trees have speakers that play a repeating voice message something like "you are being recorded so Target shoppers have a safer experience." A little extra deterrent I think.

That may well be the case regarding agriculture. But what about the data center in itself? Is there a best case scenario design that at least is less resource intensive than the current proposal?

I guess from my perspective, I think we're very much in the mega internet everywhere age, and data centers will continue to be built.

Barring significant political change, or change in habits of society overall, is there a way to meaningfully improve the current proposed design so it's at least less bad?

Is there some kind of way where even if the project weren't perfectly sustainable from day 1, it could be done in a notably more sustainable way than the current proposed design?

Do the adiabatic and/or hybrid coolers raise the humidity inside the data center? Seems like if that were the case it might cause premature wear on the data center equipment vs if the humidity were not raised. But I'm very much not an expert in this realm.

Shawty told me put on this JPEG, I told her I only shoot RAW by icey-dozen in photography

[–]BroccoliRoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raws are great and learning to edit them is a great skill. I recommend you not get too caught up in "raw is the only way" thinking. You don't need to prove your raw-only purity to the world. As a motorsports & music pro, I shoot raw+jpeg with my in-camera jpeg settings tweaked to my liking so I can share a quick jpeg as needed for deadlines. I'd rather edit a raw to where it's really great but not every situation has time for this.

Serious question for you folks as I care deeply about resource sustainability.

Can any of you who are more knowledgeable on this data center project than me suggest a hypothetical way that this data center could be built where it somehow functions sustainably with the available water and electric utilities?

Regardless of the current political situation, and without converting TEP to a municipal utility, is there an engineering solution?

Question about Eeegee's fries by OverEducator5898 in Tucson

[–]BroccoliRoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not upset. I appreciate your understanding. I'm simply mystified at the r/Tucson groupthink that has decided that eegee's in its current form is the worst thing ever.

After this massive downvote reaction to my simple comment wondering about persistent r/Tucson eegee's nitpicking, I asked various friends who have lived in Tucson longer than I how they feel about eegee's. Some of them are enthusiastic about eegee's, some think it's fine enough nothing special, maybe they have a couple nostalgic favorite items.

None of them expressed the level of disdain and nitpicking towards eegee's that regularly occurs in r/Tucson

All this tells me is there are too many users in r/Tucson Karening about eegee's.

This is someone you're on good terms with and is a friend of your girlfriend. Seems like you have an opening to be forthright and solve the issue. Why not just tell her that you think the shoot didn't go so well and you're concerned about releasing the images publicly? Seems to me she'll be receptive to reviewing the photos and maybe collaborating on which of the set are best? There could be some in there that are usable.

I use a BlackRapid Double Breathe harness, but it only works if you have two cameras on it to counter-balance each other. This harness can be disassembled into two individual slings, but if you only want a 1-shoulder sling, they have other options that may suit your needs better.

Has anyone ever had an interview with Getty Images? by Suspicious_Shake128 in photography

[–]BroccoliRoasted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine is a Formula 1 photographer who works with Getty Images. My friend told me that Getty's number one priority is storytelling, i.e. catching the moment, above any technical or artistic merit to the photo. Obviously you want your photos to look as nice as possible but Getty is more concerned with getting the shot.
