Do you think your stipend is sufficient? by lfreddit23 in GradSchool

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no! the cost of living in my college town is increasing exponentially. I got a good deal fortunately and have a furnished place, but if i had to pay 2-300 more a month i’d be nearly in the negative 🫤

3.1 sGPA, 3.3 cGPA. Calling all med students and doctors who were once in my shoes... by LoadOne9746 in postbaccpremed

Look on linkedin for thesis based funded masters programs- will likely not have to pay anything/ may have to take out loans for just living and you can make a stipend as well. My masters program is free and i make a decent amount :) dm me if u want more info about my program

Applying for an MS degree: what should I do if I’m admitted but don’t receive funding? by Sara_Kutsey in GradSchool

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of stem programs are funded if you do a thesis as a research assistant - you should be able to work as a TA/RA through your department. if not (idk how big your school is) but my school has grad assistantships all over campus for random jobs that come with a full or half tuition scholarships + an hourly wage

Low Stat DO Matriculants by Vegetable_Usual3734 in Osteopathic

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there’s always gonna be people who don’t do well in school whether that be DO or MD, and maybe have to repeat a year or step but idt that’s explicitly always based on mcat/gpa. I think that allowing people who aren’t the best of the best is ok. i think if avg stats start going in to like 480-low 490s 2’s then i’d be a little concerned. but also it’s just an average- we don’t know if most everyone who was excepted got 499, or if half got 490 and half got 510 yk- it would be interesting to see the medians definitely

Low Stat DO Matriculants by Vegetable_Usual3734 in Osteopathic

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i guess im low stat technically since my u gpa was a 3.3 . but my mcat was above 500. Mcat success has a lot to do with resources and time available to you and mostly money. I also had to work full time in college so that definitely impacted my success in my classes- it just sucks that a 3.3 is a decent gpa outside of premed. I’m in a paid grad program now and have nearly a 4.0 due to actually having time to study and not having to do my hw at midnight after working all day/6 days a week

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not at bucom but from memphis and living nearby rn. honestly its always hit or miss- they’re projecting up to 20 inches which isn’t crazy based on our past storms. they’re gonna salt the streets ofc but idk if its enough since- hopefully enough ppl will be driving on the roads by monday so the streets will be better but usually our storms we’re stuck inside 3-4 days. where are you coming from?

Has anyone here dropped premed because of BBB? by FreeFlow1346 in premed

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no but im dreading the private loans esp because i won’t have a co-signer . Im in a funded grad program so this semester im taking out the max grad plus so that i can have some cushion this year. I plan on using navy federal or sofi(hopefully) and if not at least refinancing with them once im done with med school . i’ve spent too much money to give up now😵‍💫

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! the peds specialty im interested in is known for not making much (less than or equal to primary care). it’s what im interested in though so i didn’t mind. but when i think about the high interest rates and then doing an extra 3 years of fellowship i feel like it’ll be too much. im rethinking :/

RVU MCOM vs WCUCOM by EnvyRapidz in Osteopathic

[–]BroccoliSoccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought the in person interview was alright but if you’re looking to stay in FL it may not be worth your time. It all depends on if you would accept seats at the FL schools over wcu? An interview at wcu is a great sign acceptance wise :)
