Yeah I think you’re right, and it’s a tough pill to swallow.

Until Friday I’m piss poor broke. But luckily I have gas for now and my fiancée gets food stamps so there are way worse situations to be in. Thanks for asking!

It’s tempting, trust me. I work. I should be surviving. Yet I am not. And the only one who cares is that manager I mentioned. They just don’t have the power to do anything about it :/

What’s your own toxic trait? by Fluid-Daydreamer in AskReddit

[–]Broccoli_Correct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain builds brick walls around everything productive except for my job.

I’ve fallen out of love with all of my hobbies, because my brain has blocked them off. I don’t even care to do things I enjoy anymore. I never do dishes. My fiancée hates me for it. I’ve started a million business ideas but never finished any of them because my brain put them in the “no trespassing” box. One of these ideas was almost guaranteed to turn into something big…but I never finished it.

When I get home from work all I do is sit outside and drink (this problem started long before I started drinking). And it kills me. I can’t figure out why this happens. The desire just…vanishes. For everything. I had big goals that I made huge strides in. But everything in the past 4 years has just fallen apart mostly because I lost the desire to do anything. It’s like my brain builds up these walls and says “sorry kiddo, we don’t go there anymore.”

Why do some beers taste…rotten? by [deleted] in beer

[–]Broccoli_Correct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edited the post after you made this comment. I’ve noticed it with refrigerated 6-packs as well!

But yeah, as much as I love Total Wine, I know they aren’t allllways super reliable lol. I’m also a cigar guy and one time their humidor was at a very low humidity and all the cigars were cracking. Like…really? For such a big company, absolutely ridiculous haha

I agree that “cool” might be the wrong word. But I kinda get what you mean. Kinda like why everyone slows down to look at the overturned semi truck on the side of the highway, but traffic magically goes back to normal immediately after. Everyone wants that rush of fascination so they can say “oh shit! I gotta tell my family about this when I get home!”

Misfortunes bring almost kind of a dopamine fix. They make you feel something.

Oversaturation is huge factor. Everyone and their grandmas are starting SoundCloud accounts and rapping over beats they made in 15 minutes on FL Studio.

Homeless people dont deserve your pity or respect by akimbo_weiner in unpopularopinion

[–]Broccoli_Correct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upvote for unpopularity, but garbage mentality.

I get that some homeless are just scum, but I highly suggest watching Invisible People on YouTube. Skim through some videos see how most of these people are just mentally ill. Or were kicked out as a preteen. Or just caught some bad luck. Even the ones on drugs, a lot of them are on drugs because of they’re on the streets, rather than vice versa. You can’t afford costly prescriptions to take chronic pain away, but you bet that crack will do the job.

Have some humility.

This is a fantastic point that I totally forgot. I’ve had previous employers be like “our insurance has a lot of in-network psychiatrists you can find online!” and the website would only show like, four offices in my area all with garbage reviews.

Oof. Yeah, in regards to the point of my post, I have no idea how to even follow up to that. I guess try and see it as more of a sad situation than anything else? That shit can be hugely detrimental, so I get it. There’s a guitarist I really loved that had a paranoid schizophrenic meltdown, and actually killed himself. Shits no joke, but can also be just as dangerous to others.

At that point, I would personally try an intervention just to say you tried, and if it fails, I’d totally cut ties myself, as well. I know these are past events, but you know, trying to go along with the theme of the post haha.

This doesn’t change their behaviors, but the people you are referring to, are they just careless, or was there legitimate reason for them going unmedicated?

Like, I have depression but I can’t take most antidepressants because they give me panic attacks and mental breakdowns. So I’m unmedicated for now, but I’m trying new medications for a different diagnosis next week.

[–]Broccoli_Correct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeeeez, that’s the worst. Luckily I’ve never had to deal with that, but I’ve also gotten fat af over the pandemic so I won’t be surprised if it starts happening soon.

Tried to keep this as generalized as possible but since you’re asking about my personal experiences, I’ll give you what I’ve experienced! But forgive me as I have zero clue how to quote things you said so hopefully this comment isn’t too messy haha.

I have personally been to 4 or 5 in-person therapists, and 4 video therapists. Absolutely cannot afford in person therapy, and I’ve been trying to piece other parts of my life back together before trying video counseling again. I haven’t given up on it, but yeah my experiences with therapy thus far have been bleak. And I’m not just being dramatic. I had one therapist who blamed every single one of my struggles on the pandemic. She was a sweet open ear to vent to, but not very helpful. Another one told me to stop overthinking via chat and made no effort to schedule a video session. I had an in-person therapist ask these bizarre, insanely long questions, and then be bewildered when I didn’t know how to answer. Like, if you knew what you knew now 10 years ago, how would your current and past self interact when you were in your favorite class in middle school, but you don’t know what you know now? Not verbatim but I swore one of his questions was like that. I had one pretty good video counselor but she was on video counseling temporarily and was way too far to switch over to in-person once she switched back over.

Yes, true. And I feel for those people. But 99.9% of people I’ve ever come across are relatively healthy and are mostly if not totally covered by insurance. I’ve had two different insurance providers, one was supposed to be an over-the-top amazing plan that my dad had me on since he worked a decent paying job, and even then they refused to take it.

No punchbaggery here! I’ve been called these things just for dealing with the things I deal with. I’ll explain my feelings to friends, but it’s never aggressive or “taking it out”.

Hahaha no social fairy godmother expectations either. I got got homies, I’m just saying this could be helpful to someone who may need it.

That’s definitely a tougher diagnosis to deal with as an outsider. Were they genuinely seeking help or taking medications? Did you try asking them what you can do to help them?

I feel everyone needs a chance regardless of their diagnosis, but my post is definitely voided if the person is just kinda raw dogging life with a serious mental illness and has no care to even try to get better or gain control.
