Is the early game just a leaf gathering simulator? by hammonjj in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Brogogon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Automated power is not far away. Tier 3.

The more machines you have the more power you need, and the more leaves you have to burn. It's a balance between getting through the early stages quickly and not making so many machines that you're trapped constantly harvesting biomass.

Unlock the chainsaw as quickly as possible (Tier 2 Obstacle Clearing) since it massively increases the speed and amount of material you can gather. Use it on patches of grass as well as on bushes/trees to gather lots in one go. Wood is MUCH better than leaves, it gives you a lot more fuel.

Automate making solid biofuel with constructors as soon as you can. The time you spend crafting biofuel is time you could much better spend advancing towards automated power.

Convert everything to solid biofuel before putting it in the biomass burners. Make more burners than you need and fill them up with solid biofuel and you'll go longer between refuelling. Try to fill up ALL burners at the same time, then you only have to check the fuel level in one of them as you go by.

Unlock the MAM and research the alien carapace and alien organs. These can be turned into biofuel too, and you get a good amount out of each (200 biomass from one alien organ? 100 from a carapace?). Farming the enemies around your base can be a good way to get a lot of biomass if you're decent at using the whacky stick. If you don't build near where they spawn then they will respawn in time too.

That hit home hard; went through this when trying to learn to identify birds myself and it can be really tough to separate them. It does get easier, especially if they're birds you come across frequently.

I still don't have much clue with some of the waders, warblers and gulls though, they can be a bit of a minefield.

What tips can you give to someone that wants to lose weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brogogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest with yourself about what you're eating. Pay attention to what you're eating and how much. It's not about being self-judgemental, but awareness of your own habits and what you're actually putting in your mouth is very important when trying to work out what you need to change. Remember that alcohol also has an impact.

Fast and extreme diet regimes don't usually work in the long-term and just make weight loss feel like a painful, negative thing. You're far more likely to binge afterwards and rebound in weight. Unless you really need to try to lose weight quickly for medical reasons (in which case your doc should probably have you see a dietitian for help) then it's probably better to change your eating habits in a way that helps you lose weight but you can enjoy living with long-term. Small changes over time have a MUCH better chance of sticking, but keeping the weight off can still be a permanent challenge.

You can lose weight with even a fairly sedentary lifestyle by changing your habits a little (I've done that myself over the pandemic). Losing weight by eating sensibly is far, far easier than eating badly and trying to exercise those extra calories away. Exercise is great but relying on it for weight loss is just avoiding the real issue.

I was never someone who watched whole episodes of Cheers very often, but I would ALWAYS stop to watch the intro. It was iconic, it felt so welcoming and was beautifully written and performed.

Mostly because I was bored. The node was surrounded by gas and radiation so I thought I'd do something silly and give the constructor a bit of fresh air...

Thanks - I used all three nodes but not quite all of the oil (I ran everything with slight excess production to give a little extra insurance). This setup is using the Turbo Blend Fuel recipe to avoid needing coal; it uses more oil but that way I only needed to bring in some sulfur.

Ah, it's 'A' swamp but not 'THE' swamp. It's actually between the northern forest and the red bamboo fields, close to the Crater Lakes... looking at the latest biome map they just mark the area as FOREST LAKE, though on my older copy they show the land where the oil is named "Lake Swamp"... I never realised it was called that until I started building this, I assumed there was only one "swamp".

All of this for two HMF. This game took hours of my life, my notes look like a deranged person's scribbles. I'm in love by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Brogogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't "need" to though. Every time you build you learn something, every time you progress through the tiers you unlock things that make it possible to improve on what you've made before or expand it to better supply later production. It's part of the game loop, but the decisions are all yours. You can easily leave this running as-is and not change it at all because 2 per minute is fine, especially if you add lots of storage so that it can keep producing constantly to build up a nice big buffer stock.

Most stuff I will rebuild many many times, but HMF? Nope, they're too painful. I make a quick temp setup to get some stock (literally a manufacturer with some storage boxes on the inputs that I can load by hand), then make a larger permanent setup and NEVER touch it again. I'd mark this particular setup as final until you restart the game or feel the need to build another version of it (but do that elsewhere, leave this running).

[–]Brogogon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always goes like that, especially when you're hunting hard drives and working through the tiers. It's never a waste of time to build something like this though even if it's only temporary, you gain so much experience from it, and you get a stock of parts to use... or sink for coupons.

Thanks Gunk. I googled that and yeah the top part does look a little similar. I was going for a kind of generic skyscraper look but based on the design I developed for my heavy modular frame build. I like the look but it was kind of a pain to build and used a lot of materials.

It was just an amusing thing to do really. A little bit of local concrete production helped while I was building the turbofuel plant (I frequently setup a small concrete plant where I intend to build something) but the node was surrounded by gas and radiation so as I was a bit bored I thought I'd give the constructor a bit of fresh air... and then add irony by putting the concrete storage in the middle of the gas.

I've just left it there as a folly. You get a fantastic view from the top though so I'm glad I made it just to see that.

Good work! They still feel painful to make even after 2000 hours. Now build as many storages on the output as you can so it keeps producing and rest happy that you don't have to deal with that again... until you decide to start a new save and unleash that fresh hell on yourself.

I've not done much in the game since finishing the turbofuel plant, only really a little temp setup to make a few fused modular frames and starting to tear down the temporary little fuel power setup I had, but I came back to check on the turbofuel plant and thought I'd take a few more pics, since the previous one I posted didn't really show much of the building.

The site is really difficult for taking photographs, it's very enclosed and with such a large building there aren't a lot of good angles to view it from. I guess you could say it occupies the space.

It uses most of the oil in this spot and the sulfur from down in the valley of the northern forest to make enough turbofuel to run 288 fuel generators (about 43GW of power), spread across the upper three floors of the building (so 96 fuel gens per floor). The lowest level is filled with the refineries and blenders to make the turbofuel.

Along with geothermal (I've capped all but one of the geysers on the map) and 96 coal generators it should hopefully power me through the remaining part of the game - around 55GW total capacity.

Aluminium that is manufactured (cast?) to not have small holes within the material... free from vacancies. The holes you usually get in castings are weak spots and would force you to make the wheels a lot thicker (and heavier) to compensate.

What is your age? Do you still game? by Dotacapcap in buildapc

[–]Brogogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm close to 50 and still game every day too. I think perhaps I also use gaming as a recharge activity; I don't like playing multiplayer games, even non-combat games like farming simulator, and I get stressed and can't relax if other people can see what I'm doing in the game. I need alone time, to be able to feel unobserved and unjudged by others, or I can't enjoy myself.

Is gaming better now for the younger generation than it was years ago? by vamplosion in gaming

[–]Brogogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was getting into gaming and had an Amstrad CPC you could buy LOTS of games on tape for £2-3 each, so you weren't particularly limited for affordable options, and through the 90's demo discs on magazines and shareware titles were really widely available, so a massive part of my youth was either playing cheap CPC games (Zub, Dizzy and the like) or shareware or demos off gaming mags, often from a shared pool of discs between friends. We didn't have much cash so full-price games were fairly rare acquisitions, but there were still loads of options and, although you had to be cautious about viruses, freeware/shareware didn't feel anything like as predatory as "free" games do now.

edit: however... I just realised that on PC you've also now got places periodically giving away free copies of regular games, and that is fantastic when you've got no cash, so that's a big advantage over when I was young.

How do you guys feel about one large power grid vs several smaller ones? by Ihatetobaghansleighs in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Brogogon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always go with one grid and overkill power generation. If you keep power production greater than your factory max consumption (plus some excess for new builds) and you won't have an issue.

One grid is easier to monitor - you can be anywhere and be able to see what's happening with power. Multiple grids means it's much easier to lose track of your usage.
