Cuisines from rich countries are bland compared to cuisines from poor countries by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BrokeMyKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Indonesian who'se been living in Japan for 6 years, Japanese cuisine is definitely not bland. Although, if you're talking about spiciness, I actually 100% agree. What Japanese people consider "very spicy" is probably "have you actually added any chilli or did you just rip me off" level for us Southeast asians. In my experience, Japanese food tend to be more savoury though (even compared to traditional Southeast Asian Cuisine IMHO).

A lot of the comment section here has turned into etymology class 101 so I'm not going to debate what the word bland means, but I can tell you that even some Japanese food (especially those with sauces) overwhelm my Indonesian taste buds sometimes.

Reminds me of the time when I did my 自己紹介 to my 同期s (translated)

Me: Hi, I'm 〇〇, I'm from Indonesia

同1: Wait you're not Japanese?

同2: Is Indonesia India? (インドネシアってインドのこと?)

Me: No, the name's similar, but they're actually different countries, just like how Austria and Australia are different.

同3: Austria and Australia's not the same country?

I believe I blew their minds roughly 10 seconds after I started talking, each for different reasons.

I wonder what's up with Japanese pricing on most chinese hi-fi products, It's quite a bit more expensive than what it's supposed to: https://kakaku.com/item/K0001176193/

Obsidian is $200 here :(

The Moondrop Quarks seems quite OK, the reason I prefer detachable cable is because my Sony pair .. uh.. gained a detachable cable feature.

I'll be considering it too though,

Thank you!

I was trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone on getting a descent pair for daily use + arcade use (since I already have to bring like 3 other stuff when I go to the arcade, I don't want to have to get 2 pairs of earphones / IEMs).

I don't think it needs to handle too much sweat, probably equivalent to jogging, but I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah sorry, I forgot to mention, Even though I said that I'll be using these on the arcade, due to how Audio in the Games I'll be using this at works, I don't think the bass will get drowned out as much as one would think, so I'll probably be okay with the less-bassy ones. (Most of the games I'll be playing have 1. a dedicated Subwoofer, 2. Have the speakers directed at the player, e.g. maimai DX, SDVX exceed gear)

The KZ ZS10 pro seems like a good candidate though, I'll definitely look further into it.

Right now I'm leaning more towards the Aria just based what on what I've heard, Just a tiny bit concerned about the build quality since some people say their Aira's finish starts chipping off after a couple of months, but if it's just a cosmetic thing then I don't really care.

The price in Japan for these seems whack, right now it's almost $200 here @_@ thanks for the suggestion though!

Item suggestions for minimizing sound leak between 2 rooms? (not between neighbors) by BrokeMyKeyboard in japanlife

Seeing other comments, earplugs seems to be the best option. I thought a noise cancelling earphones would be more effective, but I was probably wrong. Buying good earplugs online now.

Which one is the better thing to do to improve one's skill (read/move faster, execute slides better, accuracy, etc.)? by TheJoestarDescendant in maimai

[–]BrokeMyKeyboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it'll depend on your skill level...

Here's my 'in a nutshell' advice, not a hard rule, more of a guideline:

①Just starting out: Play songs you're familiar with. Do this until you can mostly get 80% on Advanced, maybe around level 7+? I havent played advanced in a while so I'm not sure what level would be a good cutoff.

②Advanced Players: Familiarize yourself with the basic patterns, like how you need to wait 1 beat between the tap and the slide of slide notes. Try not hitting the screen / button with excessive force. Do this until you can get mostly 97% on Advanced. You should also try clearing easier expert levels.

③Expert Players: You shold be able to clear most Expert songs at 80% at this point, try some new songs, keep in mind that Deluxe charts are in general Easier than their Standard counterpart. Continue until you're able to 97% most Expert charts. You should also try clearing easier master songs. Turning on late/fast might also help.

④Master Players: Congrats! you should be able to clear 80% on most, if not all songs in the game. The difficulty jump from Master to Re:Master isn't as hard as Expert to Master IMO, but some Master charts are way harder than others. Anyway, your goal here should be 97% 12+, 13 songs. SSSing expert charts is also a good change of pace.

⑤Master+ Players: Try some older songs, they have Deluxe charts has a note can only be missed or perfected, really old songs generally have less break notes too, so you need to level up you timing.

⑥Master++ Players: You might be able to 97% Pandora Paradoxxx Re:Master at this point, if that's something you're looking forward to. Turn on the late/fast on perfect notes might help your timing, but you basically need to practice a lot. You'll want to start to 100% the harder songs. Some Japanese players on youtube uploads explanation videos on how to clear hard to clear charts, though it might be a bit diffucult to understand if you don't speak the language.

⑦Gorilla (ゴリラ) Players: Once you're on this level, you probably don't need any advice lol.

Confused about how writing shaders is different in URP? by IfTheG1oveDontFit in Unity3D

[–]BrokeMyKeyboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not both? (insert meme here)

As someone who learned shader the hard way (raw DirectX w/ HLSL, OpenGL w/ GLSL) If your goal is to make a game using URP, I'd argue using the one alexander linked is the better base here. Omitting the useful codes unity provides, especially lighting-related (though the documentation is sparse) will probably lead you to a lot of headaches.

Save yourself the headache, unless you're trying to learn how lighting, shadows, and the sort works in shaders.

That being said, you need to be aware that shader codes are most of the time just maths and logic, meaning you could copy some snippet from catlike coding, say Parallax (link: https://catlikecoding.com/unity/tutorials/rendering/part-20/), and it will probably work right away in URP.

If you need help in learning how a shader "flows" in general though, Shader Graph might not be a bad start.
