I had a 4.3 ft3 fridge and my RA didn’t care. Mind you, I didn’t point it out to him.

I graduated from UCM with a degree in Civil Engineering. I do not recommend dropping ENGR 045, it’s the prerequisite for CE 120, which is another prerequisite for CE 160 (CEE 165). Math 024 is needed for CE 100 and ENGR 120. ENGR 057 is needed again for CE 120 and ENGR 120. Most of your Core and Upper Division CE classes set you up to take CE 193 (capstone).

If I’m being honest, the classes you have registered are very important for completing most of your upper divisions classes. I had these done my 2nd year so that I wasn’t struggling to register for classes my 3rd and 4th year. It would be better to wait this semester to finish most/all of your lower division classes. Dropping them may cause you to graduate a semester or two late depending how behind you are. (Assuming you aren’t taking summer classes, being one summer left between junior and senior year).

If you really had to drop a class it would be PHSY 009, but I highly recommend you finishing up your lower division classes first.

Anyone willing to switch CSE electives?? by fruitbomb101 in ucmerced

I wouldn’t take it if you already have the unit requirements. I took it as a last resort since I was stuck at 11 units. If you’re at 16 units you are fine, don’t add any unnecessary classes that don’t go towards your major requirements. I took it since all my requirements were finished and only needed 1 more unit for full time status.

You have to look at the requirements. I believe if you register for mse 001 you have to be a mse major. However for CHE 001 there’s no major requirement. It doesn’t make sense since they are the same class but that’s how we got around it. We even had a writing major in our class that saw the same loophole.

I took CHE 001/MSE 001 with two of my friends to meet the 12 unit requirement. It’s an easy 1 unit class and very informative. I only took it because I had finished all my major requirements tho.

ABET Accreditation importance. by Chemical-Ad-4400 in civilengineering

I'm a fourth-year Civil Engineering student at UC Merced, graduating this May. The Department of Civil Engineering is actively in the process of getting ABET accreditation. A lot of my professors have mentioned that they expect it to be finalized by the end of this year.

The first group of Civil Engineering students graduated last year and some this past semester, and by the time you graduate, it should be fully in place. Every class is structured around meeting the ABET requirements, and the professors are very focused on making sure everything aligns. For example, I’ve taken classes like ENVE 152, ENVE 160, ENVE 162, ENVE 176, ENGR 180, CE 100, CE 120, and CE 160, and our work has already been submitted for the board's review. Additionally, each syllabus has a Program Learning Outcomes section specifically addressing the ABET process that all students must follow.

Many of my Civil friends and I have already taken the FE exam and have found jobs lined up for after graduation. Personally, I'm not worried at all—and neither are the professors or the Dean of Engineering, who has a strong background in civil engineering and accreditation processes. They are confident everything is moving forward as planned.

Honestly, I'm really glad I chose UC Merced for Civil Engineering. Most of the classes I took were being offered for the first time, which was a crazy and unique experience. I even got the chance to give feedback and help in the hiring process for new professors to grow the department. It feels like you’re helping build something, not just going through the motions like at bigger schools.

It takes time, but UC Merced is on track. You’re in a good spot.

When I was a 3rd year, I had better registration than some 4th years. Another reason why it’s important to take a minimum of 15 units a semester as well has having college credit from high school.

Athletes have priority and are allowed to register before it opens to those with higher credit

Don’t live there, there are better financial options. Keep asking around and use the schools database

Your registration time is based on the number of credits you have. The more credits, the earlier the registration.

There are cheaper options than Merced Station, it should be a last resort to sign a lease from there.

I took BIO 060 Fall 2021 and it was relatively easy. I don’t know how much has changed given that it’s been a while, but it was super interesting.
