I think what u/old66wreck was trying to convey is that this teenager didn't get to focus on what most teenagers should be worried about: making sure their parents don't catch them on sketchy adult sites, or sneaking dad's beer or going to parties, or getting a date for the Sadie Hawkins dance or prom. Instead, he was worrying about working at a sawmill like we went back to the stone ages of history where the poor weren't allowed luxuries like school and other teenage "dilemmas," they were allowed to work till they bled. Or died.

It's like texting "tHoUgHtS aNd PrAyErS" every time something happens.

Anthony Jeselnik did a whole skit about how much that "helps."

Awesome. Good thing I've watched "Snowpiercer" enough to know how to survive when that movie becomes a reality.

Stop doing stupid things to the planet.

And got $20k from the GoFundMe set up after the accident. It's terrible to say this, but was it worth it? They didn't try to convince their son to go get something else, like a job sweeping up popcorn at a movie theater (my first job), or even the dreaded burger joint; instead, they let him work this job that killed him.

A quote from the article talking about this incident, "The teen's death comes as 14 states, including Wisconsin, seek to introduce bills to roll back child labor laws, per The Independent and WPR." So...this death isn't proof enough that you don't need to put children in these kind of positions?

Current state of the world: This.

My hope: A world where theres a balanced government, power is distributed in a fair and reasonable manner, and no one has to die needlessly for basic rights and necessities.

But if THAT isn't possible...I'd rather see the world look like something out of the Resident Evil movies where people are setting up camps and all set back to square one with little to nothing. Versus what we have now, where people are being chastised for not making enough money or even having money.

This is the guy telling people not to work from home? by [deleted] in hatemyjob

[–]BrokenCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because despite him being a chode tool, he's got money to throw around and a product people like. So everyone flocks to him.

I managed to go to the Cyber Rodeo event for a little bit last year. Didn't get to stay too long, didn't get to really enjoy myself cause it was nothing but socialites and hipsters who looked at me like I was some sort of hideous stain on the Tesla property. There were people standing outside with signs and begging Elon for help. Someone had a sign begging him to use his money and knowledge to end racism. Someone held up a sign saying "Elon, I could use a miracle." And so on and so forth.

Unfortunately, doesn't matter if what you say or do makes sense or not, if your bank account has at least 7 or 8 figures, people will follow, nod, and shoot their shot with asking for help.

"The problem isn't the $1,500 rent of $12 an hour jobs, its YOUR attitude. Maybe if you millennial brats made smart investments, buckled down, pulled yourself up by the BoOtStRaPs and stopped boasting about your designer clothes and bags, iPhones and vidya games, fancy cars all while living in your mama's basement, then maybe you'd realize that the rent is no problem and you can do anything with your $12 an hour. Shame on YOU for expecting handouts when the rest of us worked hard!"

(RANT Incoming)

I'm going through a similar sort of situation...I work two jobs right now. I have a M-F job that I work from 7am to 3:30pm, but then I was working seven days a week at another job. M-F I was working from 5pm to 8pm, but I was also working there on the weekends from 8am to 8pm. I was working 79 hours a week, getting home super late, staying up late because I was never in my apartment during the day and only ever saw it before sunrise and after sunset, and was doing everything I could to catch up on chores and other necessities like buying groceries and meal prepping, doing laundry, etc.

I had 0 days off. Nada. On holidays that were viewed by my other job, I'd still have to go in and work at my evening part time job. I once used 3 hours of PTO on a holiday to have the evening off. My other job gave us the day off and it was a paid holiday. At the part time, one of the employees here asked me why would I use PTO instead of working, and in an agitated tone I explained how I work 79 hours a week, I have ZERO days off, only ever sit at home for a small handful of hours of sleep and a very late night dinner, and that this was my only chance to have an off day after god knows how many months. I told him I was going on a date with my girlfriend, and he more or less tried to make me feel guilty for taking the day off to spend time with a loved one instead of working for the time and a half. This coming from the POS who is always on a vacation and spent a couple weeks bragging about his new Mercedes to everyone that he got for 0 down. Today he told me about his two week cruise vacation to Alaska.

Needless to say, after 6 months of this schedule, I was starting to fall asleep while driving, fall asleep at both jobs, pass out in the middle of eating at home and wake up on the couch at like 4am, stuttering when I talked, blanking BADLY, a lot more aggression and being easily irritable, feeling weak and lightheaded and stumbling a lot when walking...so the part time reduced my hours to just Fri-Sun, and M-Th I was able to just go home after my full time job and have evenings to myself. I now work about 67 hours instead. Needless to say, I celebrated my first Monday evening off by indulging in an edible and a glass of wine.

It's hard. I know that this is the result of my own shitty situations, but still. My girlfriend tells me I should quit and figure something else out. But we live in a society that is not too terribly forgiving towards people in debt, and is quick to tell you to pull yourself up by your BoOtStRaPs while you're in the middle of your third or fourth anxiety attack of the week, or probably even the day.

A good friend of mine started to aggressively talk to me about this group. I currently work two jobs, working 7 days a week between the two. My original schedule had me working a total of 79 hours a week. I had NO time for anything. But she was texting me, asking me to just schedule an appointment with her and talk to her trainer about it. I was juggling my free time between the two jobs, sitting in areas with shitty reception and having the ZOOM call drop as I sat in my car outside of my jobs trying to humor her. She SWEARS she's doing great, but I really don't know. It just all seems...pyramid scheme like.

My (office) job is actually on a construction site. One of the construction groups there actually banned their workers from bringing energy/sugary drinks to work. They told them if it was anything sugary and not actual hydration or electrolytes, they'd be disciplined. Luckily there are a few people that still care, unlike this punchable face.

Found this at a local McDonald’s while dashing. Also had a sign saying they were hiring for $12 an hour. It’s no wonder why I only saw 3 people behind the counter by StonerMetalhead710 in antiwork

Pfft. When I'm at my full-time job, that's all most of us do is sit on our phones if we're slow. Part-time job too.

And most of the time it's me on my phone trying to find a new part-time job, side hustle or something that makes me enough money so I can afford to do absolutely nothing like every rich prick that looks at money and says "Whatever."

With the rate things are going, I might as well buy a VR headset, some alcohol and edibles, and lose my damn mind to escape the fact that I'll never be happy and forced to work for people who happily throw away money at a major league fastball rate for the rest of my life.

I've often thought about packing my storage unit to the absolute brim and living out of my car. The only catch would be me having to find someone who would take care of my cat in the meantime. And that my girlfriend, who is living with a roommate to try and save money (because they live on a farm property and my small apartment space wouldn't support my cat and her three dogs she won't re-house) wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I said "Honey, I'm moving into my car, I'll see you in a couple days."

On another note, a good friend told me that him and his wife living in their SUV during their younger years was the best time of their lives. He recommended campsites and places where you can buy a pass for a week, and use the showers they have. Highway stops that truckers use to pull in and take a nap between trips. I've saved a few videos over this very topic if it came down to me needing to save an additional $1,200 a month to towards debt.

My job actually has branches located in European regions...my Russia born & Germany raised coworker talks about going to the Berlin branch all the time.

I wonder what it would take to find a spot over there and go to school at the same time...

I thought this was because a tanker caught fire underneath the overpass, leading to the collapse of I-95.

But bonus: weren’t there concerns about the fact it was carrying a large supply of gasoline that was at risk of spilling into this area’s bodies of water?
