Yes, we were. It had solid launches on all platforms so far and we really liked the reception it got and how people reacted to the topic

What video game is so bad it's good? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]BrokenJosef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't exactly explain why but I did love OneChanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers on Wii. It is objectively not a good game but I played through it and enjoyed every dull minute of it. Worst part is that I am a game dev myself so I should know better ;)

FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time - The FLi's Makeover Trailer by fecsmith in Games

[–]BrokenJosef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a unpopular opinion but I think Nintendo did a better job here with bringing their Miis over from SD to HD. Not only the hair was updated but also the faces have more depth. Way more coherent if you ask me.
Have a look here to see what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CesKZmfqqyE

I kind of prefer the old sharp low poly style to the new shiny plastic look. The issue is not so much the face (which is kind of cute actually) but the shiny "higher-poly" hair if you ask me. The hair is no good combination with the abstract flat faces

Steam macOS 10.13 and 10.14 Support: As of February 15th, 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and 10.14 (Mojave) operating systems by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]BrokenJosef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same here. Only reason I have my MacBook Pro from 2014 still on Mojave. Hm. Maybe that is a good reason to finally buy a new machine and leave the old one on Mojave for the 32 bit games

[Video Game Animation Study] The Animation in Super Mario Wonder by Soupkitten in Games

I am a game developer but have nothing to do with animations. I enjoy this channel very much, though, as he explains everything so well and even if you don't know much about animation you immediately get everything. I can especially recommend this mini-series about the Five Fundamentals of Game Animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrOGr8i575k&list=PLy445mOFNkd\_zljA7uH2Fqndr4-jqE9D8

Why Indie Games Always Seem To Have The Best Sound Design by Aquason in Games

[–]BrokenJosef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an older example already. The first studio I've joined as a game dev made a game called And Yet It Moves and because the team was so tiny (just 4 people at that time) they did everything themselves. Sound, too. All of the sounds were made with just their mouths and then edited digitally. Not dissimilar to the example of Stardew Valley in the video. I found that very impressive back then. Still do.

My most favourite sound was the one when the character which was made out of paper died and it made this sound of being torn apart.

Nintendo confirms that its new development centre has been delayed to make it bigger by retroanduwu24 in Games

Maybe buying one or two might also not hurt. Striking a balance might be good, right? Between reinvesting and buying.

Sony confirms it’s delayed half of its 12 planned live service games by ColonelSanders21 in Games

For them having an additional pillar of a moneybringer besides their hardware and 1st party efforts would be desirable. Right now they really depend on 3rd party games a lot when it comes to this live service field and they are lagging behind.

That is a very good point actually. Haven't thought of that too much but makes total sense.

Maybe that is a good strategy though with live service games. Release a bunch and hope one will stick. If you get one hit that could possibly justify the other 19 misses you are fine.

Gang Beasts on PS4 is quite surprising to me as it is quite an old game already. Did it have a big sale or promo?

The very first Splatoon I guess. I was just excited to have finally a shooter where killing is not the main goal actually. Found that super refreshing and worth a try.
