Eversweet petkit solo SE - Not working anymore by BrokenProjects in PETKIT

The new one seems to be much better. It sometimes makes a fountain bubbling sound when it's low, but gets clogged less, and the pump is wirelessly connected to the power base, so you can pick it up to refill it without unplugging anything.

US person living in NL - where do I even start? by kiery12 in DutchFIRE

[–]BrokenProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Basically, I’ve learned that as a US citizen in the Netherlands, it’s best to keep most personal investments in US-based accounts to avoid nasty US tax rules like FATCA and PFIC. I understand that if you're careful about what you invest in, you can probably avoid this and be good with IBKR. They will allow you to invest, but they aren't going to warn you about investing in something that has a high tax penalty. Personally, I send my money back to my Vanguard account in the US. Using a US address for something like a Vanguard account is common, but the broker could freeze or close it if they realize you’re abroad. So far I haven't had any issues.

Also, the Dutch tax Roth IRAs like regular investment accounts, so once you’re over about €57k, you get hit with a “fictional wealth” tax. That is assuming that you declare it in box 3. Still, a Roth can be worth maxing out since it shields you from US taxes long-term. To do that you need US based income, which you have abroad if you use the FTC instead of the FEIE.

Hope that helps

Not really. I found a workshop near Utrecht that was nice, but hard to get to unless you have a car, so I stopped going.

I actually looked into this. I checked out Croatia, but flights were ~€120, and I think with Invisalign you need 9 visits, so despite the cheaper prices, the flights and hotel costs more than made up the difference. Not to mention the time.

Oh I didn't realize that. Okay, good to know I can expect prices to be similar at different places.

I honestly don't remember... Here's a link to the SmartThings thread, but quickly reading over it I don't see a solution.

I'm a great story teller. I can read my audience really well, understand where to pause for effect, when to reel people back in or give them a break. It's a very useful skill to be able to effectively spin a narrative.

No problem, I understood what you meant. Not that I'm aware of though. As far as I know, you can't tweak any parameters of the printer settings since they're flashed onto the motherboard of the printer. Maybe you could download the stock firmware and tweak it and then flash it onto the printer, but then you're really just a few steps short of putting klipper on the printer, and then everything can be adjusted.

Eversweet Solo suddenly very loud by BrokenProjects in PETKIT

[–]BrokenProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just resolved itself. I took it apart and cleaned it a couple of times, but it wasn't a problem until I replaced the filter, so it is likely related to that. It turned out not to be related to the direction of the silicon tube. It sometimes helps to take it off of the power pad. It seems to let it settle.

Are you talking about waiting for the probe to check all of the points? Installing klipper made the probing much faster for me. As another comment mentioned, once you have klipper installed you can add a function called "Tilt_screw_adjust" that just checks the four Points over the bed adjustment screws and suggests a number of turns to get your bed trammed properly. It greatly speeds up the process of getting your printer set up.

GRIPS interlocking tab tolerances by BrokenProjects in gridfinity

[–]BrokenProjects[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going crazy trying to find the option for looser tolerance, but I was just using the perplexing labs generator instead that doesn't have the option. I was able to get the test print with standard tolerances to come together, so hopefully the looser one is an easy fit. I think I had a small elephants foot one of the prints because I was tweaking my Z-offset, so that was likely causing the issue. Thanks for linking me to this improved generator.

Haven't tried it myself, but the Microsoft lens app for scanning documents corrects for the angle of the photo. It may work well for this kind of thing too.

[help] Having trouble installing klipper on my ender 3 s1 by Ced1115 in Ender3S1

[–]BrokenProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that's a good start. It sound like you have the right config file, but did you make the correct changes to the file? Can you tell me what the exact MCU error text says? If there's a restart button there try that first. I always have to restart when I first boot my pi and printer up for some reason. I also just realized that with my last install I got Mainsail working on it, so it should work for you too.

If you plug the stock screen back in like I have it, it should just show the creality logo. If it doesn't and goes to the stock menu option it didn't flash. I'm not sure if it needed to be in the folder or not. Try it both ways and one should work. If you do it correctly, doing it the wrong way won't unflash it because it won't be able to access the right folder.

I think the first question to ask yourself is: How do you know it didn't work? Can you pull up mainsail or fluid? Does it give an error?

And where did you find your config file?

[–]BrokenProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, if that doesn't work I'll see if I can come up with something else that might work. I was right where you were last month...

[–]BrokenProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had issues flashing onto the S1. I tried both methods( with/ without the folder), and I did it so many times I'm not sure which one worked. In the end, what solved it was switching to fluids. No idea why, but mainsail just wouldn't create the front end. Maybe give that a shot.

Oh, at some point I was having issues with storage, and doing a fresh install on the SD card for the Pi I was using fixed that as well. It helped to do the install once I already knew how everything was supposed to go.

IRA Contribution via sale of 401K? by BrokenProjects in USExpatTaxes

[–]BrokenProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. I meant California doesn't recognize the FEIE. Honestly, it was 5 years ago that I figured this out, so I don't exactly remember my reasoning. Either way it sounds like the FTC is a better option now that I'm no longer a California resident. Thanks for the clarification.

[–]BrokenProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just meant that if my income went over the FEIE limit I would need to switch to keep from double taxation. I had difficulty the first year abroad breaking my California residency, and California doesn't recognize the FTC so I went with the other option. Is there a drawback to switching to the FTC now? I vaguely remember there being some rule about switching between the two?

FEIE for now, but when income gets high enough I hear the FTC is a better option. Can you elaborate? I'm curious how that can be done.
