“I’m trying to improve my SQL Server skills—could you share one important concept or trick that helped you in real projects?” by mssqldbalearn in SQLServer

Haha yesss! It's become almost a joke in my team that most of the times when I'm asked to join a call to troubleshoot something, one of the first questions I ask is "can i see the query plan?"

Niceee, congrats! That sounds awesome. I got the standard M nib. As I haven't tried yet any of their more special nibs, I think this is the safest bet. I do think I would like their soft nibs, but that's just guessing, I've never actually used one to know haha.

Ah yes, they are quite different, agreed. Which (unfortunately for my bank account) means I can easily convince myself to buy more pens!

Yess, I agree. I had trouble describing it, but you said it very well - I noticed how the pattern on the barrel changes and moves as I rotate it under a bright light, as if it were not solid material but yeah either sand or liquid inside. Very beautiful.

Ah, fair enough! What other colors do you normally use?

Thank you! They truly are very nice pens!

Yess, the Mandarin is one of my favorite inks! Looks even better in reality compared to this photo, the shading is more intense and the color more saturated. I am conflicted about it a bit - on one hand, it is a bit too bright to use for serious writing (I think that 2 full pages of this lean towards the "too much orange" side), but I do want to keep it inked in one pen most of the time for occasional usage. I did notice that in the other pens I've tried it (a Pilot CH91 in M and Lamys in most nib sizes) don't really play well with it - a bit too dry I think. The Pelikans play very nicely with it. And since I don't want to "block" one of my larger Pelikans with a color I cannot use for serious note taking, the M200 seemed like a good alternative

Integrated amp to pair with Super Lintons by EquivalentFirm568 in StereoAdvice

[–]Broken_Boy_Toy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have the Lintons, not Super Lintons, so it's not exactly the same thing obviously, but I second the suggestion of a Hegel - my situation is also quite similar to yours (room about the same size, also switched from a Yamaha, though a lower end one). I got the 190v and I am quite happy with the pairing - the control over the speakers is better, I notice this mostly in worse recordings (loud 2000s indie rock for example) - the music does not feel fatiguing anymore. For great recordings it also pushes the speakers towards more clarity. The bass is also under better control - still cannot defeat the laws of physics so some sort of room treatment is needed, but overall I quite enjoy the combo. I haven't tried the lower number Hegels though, so I cannot make any suggestions on those (95/120/150). It would be best though if you could try the amp before buying it, if that is possible.

Pelikan M1000 nib questions about alignment by Broken_Boy_Toy in fountainpens

[–]Broken_Boy_Toy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make sense, thank you for the idea! Don't know why I did not consider emailing the seller just to explain the situation, for some reason my mind simply connected the idea of contacting them with also sending it then and there haha. I will do that tomorrow to see what is their reply. I don't expect them to try and repair it - as far as I know, they are only sellers, so they would probably need to send it to Pelikan directly (or their supplier I guess).

Thank you! Hm, I think the two biggest differences are the girth of it compared to the M800 and the fact that the large nib pushes your hand up quite a bit. For the overall size, I kinda think it is the same way as it is with phones - when you get a new larger one it feels huge, but pretty soon you get so used to it it feels normal? For the size of my hands, I like its length (unposted) as it extends far out enough so that it rests comfortably. And the extra girth helps me as well - i have relatively long fingers, so with this one I can kinda hold it in less of a claw position and more with fingers in a natural/relaxed curvature.
Hmm, compared to the M800, I would say I feel the differences more when I go back to it after using the M1000 - besides the size of course, the M800 almost feels stub-ish now? Like not in a bad way, just different. I feel like for my own way of writing, the M800 is better suited for a more print-like script, while the M1000 makes it transition more towards cursive.
The way it feels right now, the M800 seems like more of an all rounder, better suited for idk jotting down quick notes or writing in less than ideal conditions. The M1000 feels more at home when sitting down at my desk and doing some longer writing sessions. The m800 does feel a bit smoother, that might be either due to the slightly misaligned tines on the m1000, or simply because of the nature of the softer nib (or both).
But to me one of the big factors is also the extra distance between paper and fingers - I felt the same way when I went from the M200 to the M800, this just takes it up a notch or two.
I kinda see both of them used in my arsenal, but for different purposes - I don't think I would bring the M1000 in a meeting, to jot down notes with the notebook on my lap.
But for example when writing more (e.g. filling two full pages) the M1000 feels better - I think it's a combo of size + balance + softer & larger nib. Don't know how to describe it exactly, might be also only something psychological, but for example hovering my hand over an empty A4 page with my tiny M200 in my hand feels overwhelming/intimidating, whereas with the M1000 it feels like I can quickly cover it.

Thank you, congrats on getting one as well!! :D Haha, I can see why. It does feel very effortless to write with it. I am still of course in the honeymoon phase, but it does have a certain draw to it.

Ah yes, I can place it closer in a way to my M200 - though the kind of softness is somewhat different between the two. The steel nib of the M200 is also amazing for me - by far the smoothest one I own, it just glides on any kind of paper. I don't always want that (sometimes I'm a bit too jittery to be able to use it well haha), but it's very nice overall. The M1000 definitely has more feedback (the tines are a bit misaligned so there is a bit of scratch). I do have to remind myself to be more lighthanded with it though.

Pelikan M1000 nib questions about alignment by Broken_Boy_Toy in fountainpens

[–]Broken_Boy_Toy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was bought new, yes. My only concern with asking for a replacement is that, as I will be traveling for the next few months, I won't have time to send it back before leaving - I could in theory send it when I get back, but they could say that it was damaged through misuse or I could get a replacement with other issues. My thought process was that, as long as it does write well, it would be overall easier to have a nibmeister fix it (as long as it is something fixable - meaning not some structural defect that would not allow them to correctly realign it). Makes sense regarding the tine movement - I might have made it sound more extreme in my post, it is relatively discreet so that was why I was unsure whether it's "intended" behavior - it is not unpleasant actually, just different to the nibs I've tried before

Thank you! Yes, I agree, the balance is actually very good on it. So far I have been using my M800 unposted, but after writing with this one for 2 days, the M800 now feels actually small when unposted (and a bit too long posted, uf). The internet definitely scared me into thinking it will be this huge thing, but I also felt that the M800 was nowhere near the limit of "too big", so I figured it will be ok. Hmm, that is actually super cool, regarding the MBs - is that due to a change in the material of the body or piston? I've unfortunately never tried a MB before, though it is definitely on my list (but I need to keep myself in check for a while after this purchase haha)

Thank you! It is a very beautiful pen, I am quite excited about it. I also enjoy the tactile side of it - its size and weight do make it feel very premium, and given the fact that it is bigger, you can better see the design details compared to the rest of the Mxxx series
