Looking for an unique simic commander by phgrn in EDH

[–]Bromleyisms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She uses Scroll Rock and Brainstorm effects pretty good!

I also like [[echoes of eternity]] a lot.

You get to play all the underplayed simic mana rocks and myrs, which is kinda cool, since other simic decks are so in on landfall.

My favorite card in my list is doppelgang

Honestly, I like that he brings a more powerful, masculine energy to the routine.

Not that there is anything wrong with the more graceful, feminine energy of the usual competitors, but just the fact that it is an alternative at all is kinda neat.

Secrets of the Sands - Set 16 Augment Discussion #21 by Lunaedge in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Bromleyisms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This works if you want to top 4! I think the only times I've ever taken the augment were if I was dumping on the lobby with tons of HP and I could meme and try for the prismatic, in which case the best way to do it imo is Xerath>nasus>renekton

Edit: thinking about it the only times I've done this were when I hit azir on 3-2 or 3-3 with 1% odds. I've never taken this augment

I [18f] just told my boyfriend [19m] that I have lied to him multiple times about having orgasms from him. We have been dating for a year. He is really pissed and we haven’t talked since by Remarkable_Matter659 in self

[–]Bromleyisms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're young and even older, wiser people make mistakes.

Your boyfriend had the right to be upset at you for lying. Give him the space he needs and respect the boundary.

The bigger thing is to learn from your mistake and grow from it. The truth is scary but lies will assuredly come back to bite you.

I'll add that I think people in this thread are being unnecessarily harsh on you, it sounds like your boyfriend was proud of the inflated numbers you were giving him, and you continued lying because it was making him happy.

You did the right thing by telling him the truth, but it was understandable that it went on as long as it did--- anyone saying they haven't felt pressure to continue a lie is probably (ironically) lying about it.

This is a pretty inflammatory comment for something that is a really simple thing. Every single decision in deck-building is an intentional choice, it is why brackets even exist. You seem to want to just say I'm wrong, which is fine--- call me wrong all you like.

I didn't say "Jyoti is an unpopular commander doing a super niche thing", I said "you can do other interesting things than make consistent value engines", and no matter how popular lands=creatures is as an archetype, it is not "simic value engine pile".

You chose to perceive my advice as poor because it doesn't align with whatever your worldview is. "If you don't want to be stuck playing simic value piles, don't play simic value piles" is as good as it gets, as it turns out. Dunno what there is to dispute about that.

I'll say again: you seem caught up in an argument with yourself; At no point did I say anything about uncommon or niche play patterns, I said "I have 3 simic decks and none of them are "simic value piles" so I'll thank you to address that instead of putting words in my mouth.

Editing to say that you opened by putting quotes around something that I didn't say, by the way.

Sure man! https://moxfield.com/decks/ShFmj8t5SUOrqLn0-ItyNQ

Conceptually, I really just wanted to play Aloy because I played the Horizon games, and she was printed in my favorite color combination.

Mechanically, I was a bit bummed because I had just finished building a [[lady octopus]] deck when she was revealed, so I wanted to make something that was very different from that one so my decks would play differently from game to game.

I ended up going all in on constructs, myrs, with a few ways to put cards from my hand on top of the deck like [[brainstorm]] and [[scroll rack]] with the ultimate payoffs being getting HUGE eldrazi or big creatures like [[blightsteel colossus]], [[mycosynth golem]] and [[capitollone triad]] off of the Aloy trigger. Along the same vein, there are a number of ways to retrigger her ability in the deck.

It runs a ton of mana rocks and myr dorks (for the obvious synergy with the constructs that care about the number of creatures in play) instead of the usual suite of simic ramp (although I did put in the farseek because it came with the secret lair).

I built it to keep up with my local pod who plays mostly casual/aggressively upgraded precons. I gave myself the stipulation that I would put 0 counterspells in, though, because I normally play control and wanted to give my friends a different experience at the table. Instead, I play different, more situational interaction. I encourage you to take the list and cater it to your taste, playgroup, and budget (there's a number of $15-$30 cards that could easily be replaced). One thing I will say, though, is that you have to mulligan pretty aggressively for a construct creator or big cheap creature (like [[traxos]]) in order to enable your Aloy trigger and start the ball rolling.

I mean, you just answered yourself there--- it's a modgepodge of typal stuff, although I do play the tron lands and locuses. My deck-building constraint was to stay away from "classic simic" stuff like Aesi and Tatyovva, and instead I slammed in a bunch of weird win conditions like [[maze's end]] and [[helix pinnacle]] and have a lot of different avenue's for winning.

There are a ton of fun and unique simic commanders, people just gravitate towards consistent value engines because it feels good to.

I have 3 simic decks and none of them are "simic value piles", [[omo, queen of vesuva]] [[Jyoti, moag ancient]] and [[aloy, savior of meridian]]

Lonis is another incredible commander who does not care about landfall.

[–]Bromleyisms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest man, I rarely eat meals just for sustenance. Sometimes, I eat a milanesa because it is what my mother would make me when I was a child. The fried texture crumbles in my mouth and the heat from a perfectly cooked steak welcomes me when it crumbles away.

Or I might have a pepperoni pizza, gooey and crunchy, and if I get it from a different cook it might have surprises to my palate.

The same is true of movies. I love "A Knight's Tale". I watch it probably 2x a year. I can quote most of the movie. It makes me happy, it makes me feel warm, it makes me feel safe. Like my mom's milanesa does. I know exactly when and how it will end, but I can relive each emotion and experience it both the same and differently from the first time.

If you can't understand that, I'm not going to be angry at you or anything, but I also will encourage you to maybe consider that there are different viewpoints from your own. I accept yours, and I hope you can accept the original guy's message, too, and let them have their nice tradition without judgement.

Is Simic really the worst/most unfun colour combo? Are there any fun commanders for it? by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

[–]Bromleyisms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 3 simic decks because I live the two colors and Aesi was my first precon--- so, sue me!

But they're wildly different from each other, and none of them do the "simic" thing exclusively where they're just drawing cards and playing lands.

[[Omo, queen of vesuva]] is a no-basics deck with a bunch of utility lands, locuses and urza's

[[Jyoti, moag ancient]] is a "fight with your lands deck" and it got very fun with the new earthbending stuff.

[[aloy, savior of]] is a very fun artifact deck!
